THE
BARREN AND HOWLING WASTE OF SIN
BREAD
15 Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; filled with food, he
became heavy and sleek. He abandoned the
God who made him and rejected the Rock his Savior. 16 They made him jealous with their foreign gods and
angered him with their detestable idols.
17 They sacrificed to demons, which are not God--gods
they had not known, gods that recently appeared, gods your fathers did not
fear. 18 You
deserted the Rock, who fathered you; you forgot the God who gave you
birth. 19 The
LORD saw this and rejected them because he was angered by his sons and
daughters. 20 “I
will hide my face from them,” he said, “and see what their end will be; for
they are a perverse generation, children who are unfaithful. 21 They made me jealous by what is no god and angered me
with their worthless idols. I will make them envious by those who are not a
people; I will make them angry by a nation that has no understanding. 22 For
a fire has been kindled by my wrath, one that burns to the realm of death
below. It will devour the earth and its
harvests and set afire the foundations of the mountains. Deuteronomy 32:15-22 (NIV)
21 “This
is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Go ahead, add your burnt
offerings to your other sacrifices and eat the meat yourselves! 22 For
when I brought your forefathers out of Egypt and spoke to them, I did not just
give them commands about burnt offerings and sacrifices, 23 but
I gave them this command: Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my
people. Walk in all the ways I command you, that it may go well with you. 24 But
they did not listen or pay attention; instead, they followed the stubborn
inclinations of their evil hearts. They went backward and not forward. 25 From
the time your forefathers left Egypt until now, day after day, again and again
I sent you my servants the prophets. 26 But they did not listen to me or pay attention. They
were stiff-necked and did more evil than their forefathers.’ 27 When you tell them all this, they will not listen to
you; when you call to them, they will not answer. 28 Therefore
say to them, ‘This is the nation that has not obeyed the LORD its God or
responded to correction. Truth has perished; it has vanished from their lips. 29 Cut
off your hair and throw it away; take up a lament on the barren heights, for
the LORD has rejected and abandoned this generation that is under his
wrath.’” Jeremiah 7:21-29 (NIV)
20 When
you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. 21 What
benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those
things result in death! 22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have
become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is
eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is
eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:19-23 (NIV)
10 Finally,
be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put
on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's
schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but
against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark
world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore
put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be
able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand
firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the
breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and
with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In
addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can
extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take
the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And
pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.
With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Ephesians 6:10-18 (NIV)
8 Be
self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring
lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you
know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of
sufferings. 10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his
eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself
restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11 To
him be the power for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 5:8-11 (NIV)
7 Submit
yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come
near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and
purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Grieve,
mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble
yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. James 4:7-10 (NIV)
9 They
were all trying to frighten us, thinking, “Their hands will get too weak for
the work, and it will not be completed.”
[But I prayed,] “Now strengthen my hands.” Nehemiah 6:9 (NIV)

“Measure your growth in grace by your
sensitiveness to sin.” Oswald
Chambers
“Since ‘The
heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure’, it is wise for us, like
King David, to pray: ‘23 Search
me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if
there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.’ (Psalms
139:23-24 (NIV)). And, also like King
David as well, allow ourselves to have friends like Nathan who are willing to
tell us the difficult things so that we may change and no longer be on the path
of destruction. All sin leads to death
of something. Just saying…” BHY
“What
are believers saved from? From their
former position under the wrath of God, the dominion of sin, and the power of
death; from their natural condition of being mastered by the world, the flesh
and the devil; from the fears that a sinful life engenders, and from the many
vicious habits that were part of it. How
are believers saved from these things?
Through Christ, and in Christ.
Our salvation involves first, Christ dying for us and second, Christ
living in us and we living in Christ, united with Him in His death and risen
life. This vital union, which is
sustained by the Spirit from the divine side and by faith from our side, and
which is formed in and through our new birth, presupposes covenantal union in
the sense of our eternal election in Christ.”
J I Packer
“It is only through the power of the Holy
Spirit that we are able to crucify sin in our lives. Flesh so often fails. Go in His power and strength. And take hold of the life that is truly
life.” BHY
HEART SAVOR
- ·
All sin
leads to death and destruction. Sin will
always usher in the greatest and saddest cases that can be upon our souls.
- ·
Do not be a
hypocrite by proclaiming Christ and living barren of fruit and righteousness
and obedience.
- ·
A life is a
dreadful thing to waste. Don’t foolishly
take an apple in exchange for paradise. Satan presents the bait but always hides the
hook.
