WAITING
PATIENTLY FOR THE LORD
BREAD
7 Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield
its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. 8 You
too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. 9 Don't
grumble against each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door! James 5:7-9 (NIV)
4 I always thank God for you because of his grace given
you in Christ Jesus. 5 For in him you have been enriched in every way--in all
your speaking and in all your knowledge-- 6 because
our testimony about Christ was confirmed in you. 7 Therefore
you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus
Christ to be revealed. 8 He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will
be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God,
who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is
faithful. 1 Corinthians 1:4-9 (NIV)
9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the
proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore,
as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who
belong to the family of believers. Galatians
6:9-10 (NIV)
33 “I have told you these things, so that in me
you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have
overcome the world.” John 16:33 (NIV)
34 Wait for the LORD and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it. Psalms 37:34 (NIV)
7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do
not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked
schemes. 8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not
fret--it leads only to evil. Psalms
37:7-8 (NIV)
12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in
prayer. Romans 12:12 (NIV)
9 I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering
and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of
Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. Revelation 1:9 (NIV)
10 Since you have kept my command
to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going
to come upon the whole world to test those who live on the earth. Revelation 3:10 (NIV)
8 But
do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a
thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The
Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is
patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to
repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The
heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and
the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. 11 Since
everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?
You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as
you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring
about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the
heat. 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward
to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness. 2 Peter 3:8-13 (NIV)
BUTTER
“Rescue the perishing, Care for the dying, Snatch them in
pity from sin and the grave; Weep o’er the erring one, Lift up the fallen, Tell
them of Jesus the mighty to save. Though
they are slighting Him, Still He is waiting, Waiting the penitent child to
receive; Plead with them earnestly, Plead with them gently; He will
forgive if they only believe. Down in
the human heart, Crushed by the tempter, Feelings lie buried that grace can
restore; Touched by a loving heart, Wakened by kindness, Chords that are broken
will vibrate once more. Rescue the
perishing, Duty demands it; Strength for thy labor the Lord will provide; Back
to the narrow way, Patiently win them; Tell the poor wand’rer a Savior has
died. Rescue the
perishing, Care for the dying; Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.” Fanny Crosby
“Strive
to turn your heart from loving things that are seen, and to set it upon things
that are not seen…How much better is a lowly peasant who serves God than a
proud philosopher who watches the stars and neglects knowing himself…We must
not trust every word of others or feeling within ourselves, but cautiously and
patiently try the matter, whether it be of God.
The more humble a
man is in himself, and the more obedient toward God, the wiser will he be in
all things, and the more shall his soul be at peace.” Thomas a Kempis
“We multiply our sorrows and furnish our lives with regrets
when we act in the flesh instead of the Spirit; judge the situation by
appearances instead of prayer; try to improve on God’s will instead of obeying
it; try to accelerate God’s timetable instead of patiently waiting for Him.” Michael
Youssef
“Waiting is just a gift of time in disguise — a time to pray wrapped up in a ribbon of patience — because is the Lord ever late?” Ann Voskamp
“I
realized that the deepest spiritual lessons are not learned by His letting us
have our way in the end, but by His making us wait, bearing with us in love and
patience until we are able to honestly to pray what He taught His disciples to
pray: Thy will be done.”
Elisabeth Elliot
HEART SAVOR
- ·
Wait patiently for the Lord and keep
His ways, He will exalt you to inherit the land.
- ·
Like the farmer, we must be patient for
the “land” of our souls to yield a valuable crop. And often we won’t even see the yield until
glory. It takes a long time for God to
turn our lives into vessels worthy of His use – from sinners to saints - molding
and shaping us after His will. Have thine
on way Lord.
- · The Lord is always working in the wait.
