WILLING
OBEDIENCE
BREAD
22 But
Samuel replied: “Does the Lord
delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of
the Lord? To obey is better than
sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is like the sin
of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have
rejected the word of the Lord, he
has rejected you as king.” 1 Samuel
15:22-23 (NIV)
26 Whoever
serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father
will honor the one who serves me.
John 12:26 (NIV)
11 Here
is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also
reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; 13 if we are faithless, he will
remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.
2 Timothy 2:11-13 (NIV)
15 “If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16 And I
will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you
forever-- 17 the Spirit of truth.”
John 14:15-17 (NIV)
1 Therefore,
I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living
sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of
worship. Romans 12:1 (NIV)
13 Because
of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the
obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for
your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. 2 Corinthians 9:13 (NIV)
1 Remind
the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready
to do whatever is good, 2 to
slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility
toward all men. Titus 3:1-2 (NIV)
6 And
this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from
the beginning, his command is that you walk in love. 2 John 1:6 (NIV)
BUTTER
“This is true service, the best that can
be rendered, to follow where he leads the way, let the way be never so rough or
arduous, to persevere to the end, even though the end be a martyr’s death.
Come, brethren, and especially those who are beginners, and have but lately
enlisted in Christ’s cause, let me mark you out Christ’s way, and then, if you
would serve him, follow him.” Charles
H. Spurgeon
“Every
time we resist the slightest temptation, we honor God. Every time we overcome even the smallest
problem by trusting and obeying our Lord Jesus, God is glorified in our lives. Whenever
we choose character over convenience, faithfulness over ease, or honesty over
deceit, we bring honor to the Lord Himself.” Robert
J. Morgan
“The
Word of God well understood and religiously obeyed is the shortest route to
spiritual perfection. And we must not
select a few favorite passages to the exclusion of others.
Nothing less than a whole Bible can make a whole Christian.” A.W. Tozer
Nothing less than a whole Bible can make a whole Christian.” A.W. Tozer
“Beware
of reasoning about God's Word - obey It.” Oswald
Chambers
“Religion is, ‘I
obey, therefore I’m accepted’. The Gospel is, ‘I’m accepted through what Jesus
Christ has done for me, therefore I obey’.
Religion gives you control, that’s why it’s so popular…If I am saved by
what I can do, then there’s a limit to what God can ask of me. I still have
some control. But if I am saved by sheer
grace, then there’s nothing He cannot ask of me.” Tim Keller
“God
doesn't reveal Himself to the curious or the careless, but to those who are
ready and willing to obey.” Warren Wiersbe
“There is no broadminded approach when it comes to entering into the
life that God has for you. God doesn't present you with a variety of doors to
consider. He doesn't say, 'Go ahead and pick the door that looks best to you, and
after you decide, I will support your decision and bless all that you do.' It
is true that God does have a plan and a purpose for your life, but it can only
be entered into through one door. Jesus Christ is that door. There is no other
entrance. There is only one Gospel to believe; only one Truth to embrace; only
one Shepherd to follow; only one Savior to trust; only one Lord to serve; only
one Master to obey.” Roy
Lessin
“Ultimately the man who comes to obey God will love Him
first…Let us therefore learn that the love of God is the beginning of religion,
for God will not have the forced obedience of men, but wishes their service to
be free and spontaneous…Lastly we learn that God does not linger over the
outward sign of achievement but chiefly searches the inner disposition
(motive), that from a good root good fruit may grow.” John Calvin
HEART SAVOR
- · I obey because I love Him and I can trust Him. Furthermore, obedience to God’s revealed will is for me. God always has my best interest at heart therefore the best place for me to be is smack dab in the center of His good and pleasing and perfect will whether I realize that or not. Why should I kick against what is best for my life?
- · Obedience in my life honors God and ultimately abundantly satisfies me.
- · He is not my Lord if I do not do what He says: 46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” Luke 6:46 (NIV)
