THE
WONDER OF HIS WORD
BREAD
1 Blessed
is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way
of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his
law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which
yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. Psalms 1:1-3 (NIV)
4 For
the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. Psalms 33:4 (NIV)
9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By living
according to your word. 10 I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your
commands. 11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin
against you. 12 Praise be to you, O LORD; teach me your decrees. 13 With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your
mouth. 14 I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in
great riches. 15 I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. 16 I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word. Psalms 119:9-16 (NIV)
105 Your
word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Psalms 119:105 (NIV)
89 Your
word, O LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. 90 Your faithfulness continues through all generations;
you established the earth, and it endures.
91 Your laws endure to this day, for all things serve
you. 92 If
your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. 93 I
will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life. Psalms 119:89-93 (NIV)
12 For
the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it
penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the
thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)
16 All
Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and
training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for
every good work. 2 Timothy 3:15-17 (NIV)
17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the
Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not
the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear
from the Law until everything is accomplished.”
Matthew 5:17-18 (NIV)
30 The
mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks what is just. 31 The law of his God is in his heart; his feet do not
slip. Psalms 37:30-31 (NIV)
165 Great
peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble. Psalms 119:165 (NIV)

“Be struck with
reverence for the greatness of God and the authority of His Word, and yield
your spirit to it.” Jeremiah Burroughes
“God’s Word
to you is never a passing word or line — God’s Word is your very lifeline. In
tumultuous times, there is only one voice that can calm seas.” Ann Voskamp
“Listen to the sermon with an open Bible; Don’t rush
from the Word of God to the rest of your life; Get
in God's Word as a way of life; Check your Bible like you check your
phone: frequently & consistently; Approach the Bible with eager
expectation; Hunger for the Word of God; Prepare to study the Word deeply;
read, read, read; Be confident that YOU are able to discover biblical truth;
Examining is hard work, but you don't need to be a genius; Test difficult
doctrines against Scripture before discarding them (Examples include
marriage, sexuality, predestination); Be discerning; Some things which claim to be from the Bible are
not; Be humble to submit to the Bible- no matter who you are; Give the Bible
the final say on every matter on which it means to speak.” Kevin DeYoung

“Do not be afraid to hear the hard. Weigh counsel against the Truth of God’s
Word. If the shoe fits deal with it
through the Holy Spirit’s power.
Wallowing in a wayward way gets you nowhere fast and keeps you from
experiencing God’s best for your life – His richest blessings and peace. ‘There is a way that seems right to a man,
but in the end it leads to death’ (Proverbs 14:12). Thank those who are willing to tell you the
hard things – for your good, for His glory.” BHY
“God’s standards are absolute. They don’t change. Even if
the culture changes, God’s Word does not change.” Greg Laurie
“The healthy Christian is not
necessarily the extrovert, ebullient Christian, but the Christian who has a
sense of God’s presence stamped deep on his soul, who trembles at God’s word,
who lets it dwell in him richly by constant meditation upon it, and who tests
and reforms his life daily in response to it.”
J. I. Packer
“If there were one piece of advice, one
bit of encouragement, that I could give you, that would be: know God’s word for
yourself and have it memorized. Take those Scriptures that you read and take
the time to get them deep and embedded into your heart and your mind. Because
here’s what happens in life: you hit a moment of crisis. Many times, it can
come out of the blue. It’s not something that you always get a forewarning or
impression that something’s coming. And what will hold you, and what held me on
that darkest day, are God’s word and His promises.” Cathe Laurie
“Jesus
is the Word made flesh and in Him is perfect peace – a state of untroubled,
undisturbed well-being. Therefore, as
His followers we are to encourage one another, in the midst of life’s chaos and
storms, with the living and powerful Word of God. As our Lord did, He spoke the Word and calmed
the sea. Just as it was true then, it is
still true today – His Word calms and He can speak it even through a
donkey. His Word is alive and active and
sharper than any two-edged sword. It is
able to divide soul and spirit, joint and marrow. It judges the thoughts and attitudes of the
heart. It is not to be merely idle words
for us as Moses told the Israelites, it is to be our life. God’s Word is a balm for every needy soul –
and truly, what soul isn’t needy?” BHY
“Upon the authority of God’s Word, I
declare that Christ is the answer to every baffling perplexity which plagues
mankind. In Him is found the cure for
care, a balm for bereavement, a healing for our hurts, and a sufficiency for
our insufficiency.” Billy Graham
“The One who
is the Word wants to have a word with you.
To neglect the only Voice that calms waves is to invite internal chaos. One day, either this world is going to blow apart, or your
own world is going to blow apart, and the only way you’re going survive is if
you’ve set time apart to let God’s Spirit blow in. Apathy for God’s Word leads to atrophy of a soul.” Ann Voskamp
