LAY
DOWN YOUR BURDEN I WILL CARRY YOU
BREAD
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will
give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for
I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew
11:28-30 (NIV)
37 On
the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of
living water will flow from within him.”
39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed
in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given,
since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
John 7:37-39 (NIV)
13 “If
you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to
find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.” 14 The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I
will give you rest.” Exodus 33:13-14
(NIV)
16 This
is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient
paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for
your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’” Jeremiah 6:16 (NIV)
1 Everyone
who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves
the father loves his child as well. 2 This is how we know that we love the children of God:
by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3 This
is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4 for
everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome
the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who
believes that Jesus is the Son of God. 1
John 5:1-5 (NIV)
19 Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears
our burdens. Selah Psalms 68:19 (NIV)
22 Cast
your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous
fall. Psalms 55:22 (NIV)
7 But
we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is
from God and not from us. 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed;
perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not
destroyed. 10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus,
so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. 2 Corinthians 4:7-10 (NIV)
7 To
keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great
revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to
torment me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away
from me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace
is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that
Christ's power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in
weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For
when I am weak, then I am strong. 2
Corinthians 12:7-10 (NIV)
6 Humble
yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due
time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for
you. 1 Peter 5:6-7 (NIV)
“Let the beloved of the LORD rest secure in him, for he
shields him all day long, and the one the LORD loves rests between his
shoulders.” Deuteronomy 33:12 (NIV)
27 Peace
I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27 (NIV)
BUTTER
“Anticipation of trouble makes trifles appear unduly large, and the
troubles that never come make up an imagined burden that will crush the
spirit. They are haunting specters, as
unsubstantial as a bad dream, and we spend the strength that should be expended
in constructive work and services in fighting problems that do not even exist.” Billy
Graham
“If He bids us carry a burden, He carries it
also.” Charles Spurgeon
“Give me a stout heart to bear my own burdens. Give me a willing heart to bear the burdens
of others. Give me a believing heart to
cast all burdens upon Thee, O Lord.”
John Baillie
“God hath not promised skies always
blue, Flower-strewn pathways all our lives through; God hath not promised sun
without rain, Joy without sorrow, peace without pain. God hath not promised we shall not know Toil and
temptation, trouble and woe; He hath not told us we shall not bear Many a
burden, many a care. God hath not
promised smooth roads and wide, Swift, easy travel, needing no guide; Never a
mountain, rocky and steep, Never a river, turbid and deep. But God hath promised strength for the day,
Rest for the laborer, light for the way, Grace for the trails, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy, undying love.” Annie
Johnson Flint
“Depend upon it, you will either serve Satan or
Christ, either self or the Savior. You will find sin, self, Satan, and the
world to be hard masters, but if you wear the livery of Christ, you will find
Him so meek and lowly of heart that you will find rest unto your souls. He is
the most magnanimous of captains. There never was His like among the choicest
of princes. He is always to be found in the thickest part of the battle. When
the wind blows cold He always takes the bleak side of the hill. The heaviest
end of the cross lies ever on His shoulders. If He bids us carry a burden, He carries
it also. If there is anything that is gracious, generous, kind, and tender, yes
lavish and super abundant in love, you always find it in Him.” Charles
H. Spurgeon
“Our mercies come in great numbers, but
God distributes them by parcels that we are able to acknowledge them and be
thankful for them. He loads us daily
that we may not forget Him but have new reasons for praise. Each day we are in need of new strength, new
grace, and new supplies. Every day
affords business, trouble, care, and burdens enough…God would not have us to be
overly burdened with worry about tomorrow; He would have us look no further
than today. Take one day at a time, and
go to God that He will most plentifully provide for you.” Thomas Manton
