MY
HOPE
BREAD
5 Why
are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise
him, my Savior and my God. Psalms 43:5
(NIV)
5 Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. 6 He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I
will not be shaken. 7 My
salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. 8 Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to
him, for God is our refuge. Selah Psalms
62:5-8 (NIV)
4 But
may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your
salvation always say, “Let God be exalted!”
Psalms 70:4 (NIV)
21 When
my heart was grieved and my spirit embittered, 22 I
was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before you. 23 Yet
I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. 24 You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will
take me into glory. 25 Whom
have I in heaven but you? And earth has
nothing I desire besides you. 26 My
flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion
forever. Psalms 73:21-26 (NIV)
5 For
you have been my hope, O Sovereign LORD, my confidence since my youth. 6 From
birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my mother's womb. I will
ever praise you. Psalms 71:5-6 (NIV)
9 This
is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance 10 (and
for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who
is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe. 1 Timothy 4:9-10 (NIV)
11 For
the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. 12 It
teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live
self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while
we wait for the blessed hope--the glorious appearing of our great God and
Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all
wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to
do what is good. Titus 2:11-14 (NIV)
17 Command
those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their
hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly
provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command
them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to
share. 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves
as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life
that is truly life. 1 Timothy 6:17-19
(NIV)
8 But
since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and
love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 9 For
God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our
Lord Jesus Christ. 10 He died for us so that, whether we are awake or
asleep, we may live together with him. 11 Therefore
encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are
doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:7-11 (NIV)
17 Because
God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs
of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. 18 God
did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God
to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly
encouraged. 19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and
secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, 20 where
Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high
priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews 6:17-20 (NIV)
14 But
as for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more. 15 My
mouth will tell of your righteousness, of your salvation all day long, though I
know not its measure. 16 I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, O Sovereign
LORD; I will proclaim your righteousness, yours alone. Psalms 71:14-16 (NIV)

“Hope
can see heaven through the thickest clouds.”
Thomas Brooks
“Our
Christian testimony, as Peter reminded his readers, is that, ‘we have been born
again to a living
hope through the resurrection of the dead’. Who else has
the answer to the frailty of life, the reality of death and the certainty of
judgment than Jesus, who by His death destroyed him who holds the power of
death and frees those whose lives are enslaved by the fear of death?”
Alistair Begg
“We shall never find happiness by looking at our prayers, our
doings, or our feelings; it is what Jesus is, not what we are, that gives rest
to the soul. If we would at once
overcome Satan and have peace with God, it must be by ‘looking unto Jesus’. Keep thine eye simply on Him; let His death,
His sufferings, His merits, His glories, His intercession, be fresh upon thy
mind; when thou wakest in the morning look to Him; when thou liest down at
night look to Him. Oh! Let not thy hopes or fears come between thee
and Jesus; follow hard after Him, and He will never fail thee.” C.
H. Spurgeon
“I was the enemy
of God. I was stamping through God’s
universe, shaking my fist in His face.
And in the very moment when I was shaking my fist in God’s face and
tramping through the Creator’s universe, muddying all His streams, that’s when
Jesus died for me. And if this is when
Jesus died for me, what hope it gives me now!
Now, even when I fall, the blood of Jesus is enough. He didn’t save me because I was strong; He
saved me when I was weak. He didn’t save me when I was a pretty thing; He saved
me when I was a mess. On the basis of this reality, I can have comfort.” Francis
Schaeffer
“Other men see
only a hopeless end, but the Christian rejoices in an endless hope.” Gilbert Brenken
“Seeking
with faith, hope, and love pleases our Lord; and finding Him pleases the soul,
filling it full of joy.” Julian of Norwich
“Life
is hopeless without Christ. But He is alive, and He is willing to fill every
void in your life. You can look to Him for all the right answers to your every
question. Jesus will meet you right where you are. God knows you, and He loves
you. He knows your deepest needs. Keep His Word close to your heart, and you
will not be deceived.” Michael Youssef
“Hope,
it is exquisitely fragile and it is an exceptional force and it is essential to
faith and you can’t afford to lose it. Lose your fears but never your hope.” Ann
Voskamp
