WHO
CAN STAND
BREAD
2 But
who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he
will be like a refiner's fire or a launderer's soap. Malachi
3:2 (NIV)
15 Then
the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and
every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the
mountains. 16 They called to the
mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits
on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17 For
the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?” Revelation
6:15-17 (NIV)
7 Doom has come upon you--you who dwell in the land. The time has come, the day is near; there is panic, not joy, upon the mountains. 8 I am about to pour out my wrath on you and spend my anger against you; I will judge you according to your conduct and repay you for all your detestable practices. 9 I will not look on you with pity or spare you; I will repay you in accordance with your conduct and the detestable practices among you. Then you will know that it is I the LORD who strikes the blow. Ezekiel 7:7-9 (NIV)

7 Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how
the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is
for the autumn and spring rains. 8 You
too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near. 9 Don't grumble against each other, brothers,
or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door! 10 Brothers, as an example of patience in
the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 As you know, we consider blessed those
who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what
the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. James
5:7-11 (NIV)
1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the
wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day
and night. 3 He is like a tree
planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf
does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. 4 Not
so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the
judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 6 For the LORD
watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. Psalm
1:1-6 (NIV)
24 Then
Jesus said to his disciples, “If
anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and
follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save his life
will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. 26 What good will it be for a man if he
gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in
exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory
with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has
done.” Matthew 16:24-27 (NIV)
3 First of all, you must understand that in the last days
scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, “Where is this 'coming' he
promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the
beginning of creation.” 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago
by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by
water. 6 By these waters also the
world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7 By
the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept
for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. 8 But do not forget this one thing, dear
friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are
like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow
in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you,
not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2
Peter 3:3-9 (NIV)
BUTTER
“Every sermon, every Bible
lesson, every word of testimony, and every verse of Scripture is a warning,
calling us to repentance and revival.
Our God is a consuming fire, and a day of judgment is coming. We must not neglect the warning, and today’s
church must not forget that our message includes the ministry of warning.” Robert J. Morgan
“Sin is real rebellion against the good Creator of all
things and the final judge of all people. In the end, we are all guilty of
rebellion against God. Not just the pimp
in northern Nepal, but you and me. All
of us have turned from God, all of us are guilty before God, and all of us know
it. We feel this guilt, and although we
inevitable deny it, we instinctively experience it…Yet guilt remains. No matter how hard we try, we can’t
successfully erase the sense of ‘ought’ that God has written on the human soul. One need only look in the eyes of a little
girl being sold into sex slavery to know that this ‘ought’ not to be, for right
and wrong do exist as objective standards for all people in all places at all
times. We cannot remove the reality of
guilt before God, and this is why we need Jesus.” David
Platt
“It is the prerogative of him who searches the heart, and
knows what is in man, to pronounce who are hypocrites. The eye of man can perceive open
profaneness, but it is only the eye of Christ that can discern hypocrisy. And as it is a sin which his eye discovers,
so it is a sin which of all others his soul hates.” Matthew Henry
“For eighty-six years I have served Him. He has never done me wrong. How can I blaspheme my King who saved me? The fire you threaten burns for a time and is soon extinguished; there is a fire you know nothing about—the fire of the judgment to come and of eternal punishment, the fire reserved for the ungodly. But why do you hesitate? Do what you want.” Polycarp
“The prayers we weave into the matching of the socks, the working of our hands, the toiling of the hours, they survive fire. It’s the things unseen that survive fire. Love. Relationship. Worship. Prayer. Communion. All Things Unseen — and centered in Christ. It doesn’t matter so much what we leave unaccomplished — but that our priority was things unseen. Again, today, that’s always the call: Slay the idol of the seen. Slay the idol of focusing on only what can be seen, lauded, noticed. Today, a thousand times again today, I will preach His truth to this soul prone to wander, that wants nothing more than the gracious smile of our Father: ‘Unseen. Things Unseen. Invest in Things Unseen. The Unexpected Priority is always Things Unseen.’” Ann Voskamp
“Oh! that I had a trumpet voice to warn you. Oh! while you are dying, while you are sinking into perdition, may I not cry to you; may not these eyes weep for you! Take to heart, I beseech you, the realities of eternity. Oh, turn, turn! Why will you die? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and ye shall be saved.” Charles H. Spurgeon
HEART SAVOR
- · I am a sinner in need of a Savior and praise Jesus He is mine. 12 “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 (NIV)… 30 He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.” Acts 16:30-31 (NIV)
- · The wicked will not stand in the judgment nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. Those in Jesus are cloaked in His righteousness. When God looks at the believer He sees the righteousness of Jesus not their filthy rags. The blood of Jesus has taken away the believer’s sin.
- · It is a dreadful thing to fall in the hands of the Living God apart from Christ.
