SING
HIS PRAISES
BREAD
1 Then
Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord:
“I will sing to the Lord, for he
is highly exalted. The horse and its rider he has hurled into the sea. 2 The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.
He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him.” Exodus 15:1-2 (NIV)
11 But
let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your
protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. 12 For surely, O Lord, you bless the righteous; you
surround them with your favor as with a shield. Psalms 5:11-12 (NIV)
your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. 2 How awesome is the Lord Most High, the great King over all
the earth! 3 He
subdued nations under us, peoples under our feet. 4 He chose our inheritance for
us, the pride of Jacob, whom he loved. Selah 5 God has ascended amid shouts
of joy, the Lord amid the sounding
of trumpets. 6 Sing
praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. 7 For God is the King of all the
earth; sing to him a psalm of praise. 8 God reigns over the nations; God is seated on his holy
throne. Psalms 47:1-8 (NIV)
1 Shout for joy to the Lord,
all the earth. 2 Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with
joyful songs. 3 Know that
the Lord is God. It is he who made
us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with
praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. 5 For the Lord is good and his love endures
forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalms 100:1-5 (NIV)
4 For
great is the Lord and most worthy
of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the
nations are idols, but the Lord
made the heavens. 6 Splendor
and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary. Psalms 96:4-6 (NIV)
1 Sing
to the Lord a new song, for he has
done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation
for him. 2 The Lord has made his salvation known and
revealed his righteousness to the nations. 3 He has remembered his love and
his faithfulness to the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation of our God. 4 Shout for joy to the Lord,
all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; 5 make music to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and
the sound of singing, 6 with
trumpets and the blast of the ram's horn-- shout for joy before the Lord, the King. Psalms 98:1-6 (NIV)
19 Speak
to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in
your heart to the Lord, 20 always
giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ. Ephesians 5:19-20 (NIV)
13 Then I
heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea,
and all that is in them, singing: “To him who sits on the throne and to the
Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” Revelation 5:13 (NIV)

“When captivity is
led captive, the Eternal God is the refuge of his people...Our sins which
pursued us so hotly have been drowned in the depths of the Savior's Blood. They
sank to the bottom like stones, the depths have covered them, there is not one,
no, not one of them left, and we, standing upon the shore in safety, can shout
in triumph over our drowned sins, 'Sing unto the Lord for he hath triumphed
gloriously, and all our iniquities hath he cast into the midst of the sea.” Charles
Spurgeon
“To be rebuffed by a loved one causes pain not
to be compared with the cruelties inflicted by an enemy. So your
indifference and unresponsiveness to My call brings anguish to My soul, indeed,
deeper grief than the crimes of the reprobate sinner. I have laid My rod
upon the sinner, but I have laid My hand upon you. And I have put My arm
around you to draw you closer, but you have been impatient and irritable as
though I sought to interfere with your liberty. I am able to give
you greater liberty than you will ever find by seeking to be independent of Me.
I seek not to interfere with your happiness,
but I do require that you relinquish your will; for I cannot bless you as I
desire until your will is yielded up and you accept Mine in exchange.
As you love Me, you accept My will as your own, and the caliber and extent
of your love for Me may be accurately measured to the degree that you accept My
will with a peaceful heart. You
can best sing ‘My Jesus, I Love You’ when you can truly sing ‘Where He Leads
Me, I Will Follow.’ For whoever
does not take up his cross daily to follow Me cannot be My disciple.” Frances
J. Roberts
“When
your heart is full of Christ, you want to sing.” C.H.
Spurgeon
“I cannot understand Him, but I
can trust Him. And so today, when everything physical and
emotional in me is completely drained, and there is not a single note of praise
in my heart, I choose to praise Him anyway. Not for
what He does, but for Who He is. When I cannot praise Him out
of joy, I will praise Him out of obedience. And I am learning that when I
praise Him out of obedience from the depths of the pit, it is always more meaningful
than when I praise Him out of an overflow of my heart from the heights of the
mountain. And because I know His nature, and I know that even when I
don’t feel it, He is still a kind, loving, good God, then I know that soon, He
will fill my heart with joy once again. And the praise will flow easily
from the depths of my heart.” Laura
Black
“Form one choir,
so that….having all taken the tone of God, you may sing with one voice to the
Father.” Ignatius of Antioch
“In believing
prayer, we learn to connect our present troubles to the good and perfect will
of God. We refuse to believe that chance
rules our lives. We withstand the
temptation to imagine that God is capricious or malicious. We know he has a higher purpose and that he
is not dealing with us as our sins deserve. As we bring our troubles to Jesus in
prayer—asking his will to be done—we approve the will of our Father in heaven.
We see our sufferings in the greater reality of his good, acceptable, and
perfect will. In prayer we “turn crisis
to Christ.” Our heart becomes tuned to
his heart and we sing the song of grace.”
Ancient Prayer, John F. Smed
“Instead of trying to comprehend My Incarnation intellectually, learn
from the example of the wise men. They followed the leading of a spectacular
star, then fell down in humble worship when they found Me. Praise and worship are the best responses to
the wonder of My Being. Sing praises to My holy Name. Gaze at Me in silent adoration. Look for a star of guidance in your own life,
and be willing to follow where I lead.” Sarah Young
“Faith is the bird that sings while it is yet dark.” Max Lucado
“Gospel’ signifies
good tidings that…make a man’s heart glad, and make him sing, dance, and leap
for joy.”
William
Tyndale
“The gratitude breaks forth before the bounty has arrived, in the assurance that it is certainly on the way. The song of victory is sung before the battle has been fought. It is the sower who is singing the song of the harvest home. It is thanksgiving before the miracle! Praise is really the most vital preparatory ministry to the working of the miracles. Miracles are wrought by spiritual power. Spiritual power is always proportioned to our faith.” Dr. Jowett
