KNOW
THE WORD OF TRUTH
BREAD
15 Do
your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not
need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 (NIV)
16 All
Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and
training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for
every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
(NIV)
1 In the
presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead,
and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the Word; be prepared
in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience
and careful instruction. 3 For the
time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit
their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to
say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn
aside to myths. 2 Timothy 4:1-4 (NIV)
45 When
Moses finished reciting all these words to all Israel, 46 he said to them, “Take to
heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may
command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. 47 They are not just idle words
for you--they are your life. By them you will live long in the land you are
crossing the Jordan to possess.”
Deuteronomy 32:45-47 (NIV)
13 “I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still
in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.
14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for
they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. 15 My
prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them
from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world,
even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by the truth;
your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world,
I have sent them into the world.” John
17:13-18 (NIV)
31 To the
Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to
my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then
you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32 (NIV)
12 For
the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it
penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the
thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)
17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the
Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 I tell
you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not
the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until
everything is accomplished.” Matthew 5:17-18 (NIV)
8 Remember
Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, 9 for which I am suffering even
to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God's word is not
chained. 2 Timothy 2:8-9 (NIV)
89 Your
word, O Lord, is eternal; it
stands firm in the heavens. Psalms
119:89 (NIV)
165 Great
peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble. Psalms 119:165 (NIV)

“We
Christians too often substitute prayer for playing the game. Prayer is good;
but when used as a substitute for obedience, it is nothing but a blatant
hypocrisy, a despicable Pharisaism...To your knees, man! And to your Bible!
Decide at once! Don't hedge! Time flies! Cease your insults to God, quit
consulting flesh and blood. Stop your lame, lying, and cowardly excuses.
Enlist!” C. T. Studd
“Too
many Christians mark their Bibles, but their Bibles never mark them!” Warren
Wiersbe
“Jesus claimed that
the Word of God is inspired, accurate, authoritative, infallible, unerring, and
trustworthy down to its smallest elements.
Every single Word of the Bible is precious.” Robert J. Morgan
“One gem from that
ocean (the Bible) is worth all the pebbles from earthly streams.” Robert Murray M’Cheyne
“The Bible must be considered the great source of truth by which
men are to be guided in government as well as social transactions.” Noah Webster
“Let us never forget that the message of
the Bible is addressed primarily to the mind, to the understanding.” Martyn
Lloyd Jones
“For us to grow in maturity, it's not enough to just read God's
Word. We need to obey it and put it into practice. Much as an athlete builds
physical muscles through repetition and conditioning, we build spiritual
muscles by learning, obeying, and living God's Word. Sound Bible study
transforms our lives by training our minds and hearts. Bible literacy protects
us from error and increases our love for God himself. By giving us His Word and His Spirit, God has
given us everything we need for spiritual maturity. Failure to grow is always
our choice, never God's. What are we doing today to help us grow and mature as
Christians?” Donna Evans
“The bottom line is that when
the church has moved away from the Bible as the complete and clear Word of God,
it has moved away from Christ.” David
Robertson
“The
Bible is as up to date as the morning newspaper.” George Bernard Shaw
“Just as our bodies need food, so
our souls need spiritual food. Without
it we become malnourished and weak, susceptible to every temptation and unable
to do the work God calls us to do. Where
do we find this spiritual food? In the
Bible, the Word of God. The Bible reveals
Christ, the Bread of Life and the Water of Life…Don’t be content to skim
through a chapter, merely to satisfy your conscience or because of some
long-established habit…Meditate on it, memorize it, hide it in your heart so it
permeates your whole being. A small
portion well digested is of far greater spiritual value than a lengthy passage
scanned hurriedly.”
Billy Graham
“The
shortest road to an understanding of the Bible is the acceptance of the fact
that God is speaking in every line.”
Donald Grey Barnhouse
“In an age bereft of courageous leadership, declining biblical
literacy, and rising cultural accommodation, a faithful voice from the gospel
center is needed- a voice that prophetically speaks the ancient text to our
contemporary context.” The
National Gospel Coalition
“Our
claim is that God has revealed Himself by speaking; that this divine (or
God-breathed) speech has been written down and preserved in Scripture; and that
Scripture is, in fact, God’s Word written, which therefore is true and reliable
and has divine authority over men.” John Stott
“As
we habitually hide God’s Word in our hearts, claim those special verses that
seem to have our names on them, ponder and picture them, and turn them into
unceasing praise and prayer, we will practice the presence of God – and He will
transform us into agents of audacious boldness for His gory.” Robert J. Morgan
HEART
SAVOR
- · God’s Word is not to be merely idle words to me rather it is to be my life.
- · God’s Word is alive and penetrating. It convicts, it comforts, it is the balm of Gilead that soothes the soul, spurs the action, increases the faith, encourages the saint and equips me to show other beggars - like myself - where to get the Bread of life. It is priceless.
- · There are two things eternal on this earth – the souls of men and the Word of God. God desires I should be about both.
