PATIENTLY
WAIT
BREAD
5 I wait
for the Lord, my soul waits, and
in his word I put my hope. 6 My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for
the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. 7 O Israel, put your hope in the
Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is
full redemption. Psalms 130:5-7 (NIV)
7 Be
still before the Lord and wait
patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry
out their wicked schemes. 8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not
fret--it leads only to evil….34 Wait for the Lord
and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are
cut off, you will see it. 35 I have seen a wicked and ruthless man flourishing like
a green tree in its native soil, 36 but he soon passed away and was no more; though I
looked for him, he could not be found. 37 Consider the blameless, observe the upright; there is
a future for the man of peace. Psalms
37:7-8, 34-37 (NIV)
1 I
waited patiently for the Lord; he
turned to me and heard my cry. 2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and
mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. 3 He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord. 4 Blessed is the man who makes
the Lord his trust, who does not
look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. Psalms 40:1-4 (NIV)
22 We
know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth
right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the
firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption
as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen
is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? 25 But if we hope for what we do
not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
Romans 8:22-25 (NIV)
8 But do
not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand
years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in
keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not
wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will
come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be
destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. 11 Since everything will be
destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live
holy and godly lives 12 as you
look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about
the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.
13 But in
keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new
earth, the home of righteousness. 14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward
to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with
him. 15 Bear
in mind that our Lord's patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul
also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 2 Peter 3:8-15 (NIV)
11 A
man's wisdom gives him patience. Proverbs 19:11 (NIV)
22 But
the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, 23 gentleness
and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)
13 I am
still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. 14 Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait
for the Lord. Psalms
27:13-14 (NIV)

“I
am waiting on Thee, Lord, to open the way.”
J. Hudson Taylor
“At times you will feel as the Israelites did before I worked through
Moses to part the Red Sea. They gazed with fear into a sea of hopelessness as
their Egyptian enemies headed toward them. However, as My people discovered,
hopelessness is just an illusion created by the enemy. The truth is, there is
no such thing as a futile situation. I am the God of hope, even when everything
you love and live for appears to be drowning. When you can’t swim any longer, I
am your lifesaver. I am the author of your life who can rewrite and transform
any tragedy to triumph. I am the one who will work all things together for your
good even when it appears all has gone bad. When you don’t know what to do, be
still long enough to allow Me to calm the storm in your heart and part the sea
that seems to lie in the way of My promises for you. If you will wait on Me,
you will witness My wonders!” Sheri Rose Shepherd
“The eagle has the unique ability to lock its joints and soar effortlessly on an updraft, instead of flapping its wings. As we wait on God, He helps us use the winds of adversity to soar above our problems. As the Bible says, ‘Those who wait on the Lord…shall mount up with wings like eagles’ (Isaiah 40:31).” Billy Graham

“I realized that the deepest spiritual lessons are not learned by His
letting us have our way in the end, but by His making us wait, bearing with us
in love and patience until we are able honestly to pray what He taught His
disciples to pray: Thy will be done.” Elisabeth
Elliot
“Faith raises the soul above the difficulty, straight to God Himself, and enables one to stand still. We gain nothing by our restless and anxious efforts….It is therefore true wisdom, in all times of difficulty and perplexity, to stand still – to wait only upon God, and He will assuredly open a way for us.” C.H. Mackintosh
“How
do we wait for God? We wait with patience. But patience does not mean
passivity. Waiting patiently is not like waiting for the bus to come, the rain
to stop, or the sun to rise. It is an active waiting in which we live the
present moment to the full in order to find there the signs of the One we are
waiting for. The word patience comes
from the Latin verb ‘patior’ which
means ‘to suffer.’ Waiting patiently is suffering through the present moment,
tasting it to the full, and letting the seeds that are sown in the ground on
which we stand grow into strong plants. Waiting patiently always means paying
attention to what is happening right before our eyes and seeing there the first
rays of God's glorious coming.”
Henri Nouwen
HEART SAVOR
· My heart is not to be anxious rather peacefully stilled and
wait upon the Lord – God’s Will done in God’s way will never lack God’s supply. You can take it to the bank.
· Waiting always has purpose and it is not inactive.
- I am to rest upon Jesus in the wait. “Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests between his shoulders.” Deuteronomy 33:12 (NIV)
