LOOK
UP
BREAD
1 I lift
up my eyes to you, to you whose throne is in heaven. 2 As the eyes of slaves look to
the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her
mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord
our God, till he shows us his mercy.
Psalms 123:1-2 (NIV)
29 But if
from there you seek the Lord your
God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all
your soul. Deuteronomy 4:29 (NIV)
5 Those
who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. Psalms 34:5 (NIV)
4 Look
to the Lord and his strength; seek
his face always. Psalms 105:4 (NIV)
5 Who is
like the Lord our God, the One who
sits enthroned on high, 6 who
stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth? Psalms 113:5-6 (NIV)
25 “To
whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One. 26 Lift your eyes and look to the
heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and
calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not
one of them is missing. 27 Why do
you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord; my cause is disregarded by my God”?
28 Do you
not know? Have you not heard? The Lord
is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow
tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men
stumble and fall; 31 but
those who hope in the Lord will
renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and
not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:25-31 (NIV)
1 Since,
then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where
Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things
above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ
in God. 4 When
Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in
glory. Colossians 3:1-4 (NIV)
1 Therefore,
since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off
everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run
with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus,
the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured
the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 Consider
him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow
weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:1-3
(NIV)
1 To
you, O Lord, I lift up my soul; 2 in you I trust, O my God. Do
not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. 3 No one whose hope is in you
will ever be put to shame, but they will be put to shame who are treacherous
without excuse. 4 Show
me your ways, O Lord, teach me your
paths; 5 guide
me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you
all day long. 6 Remember,
O Lord, your great mercy and love,
for they are from of old. 7 Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious
ways; according to your love remember me, for you are good, O Lord. 8 Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in
his ways. 9 He
guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. 10 All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful for those who
keep the demands of his covenant. 11 For the sake of your name, O Lord, forgive my iniquity, though it is great. 12 Who, then, is the man that
fears the Lord? He will instruct
him in the way chosen for him. 13 He will spend his days in prosperity, and his
descendants will inherit the land. 14 The Lord
confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them. 15 My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet
from the snare. Psalms 25:1-15 (NIV)
BUTTER
“Believers’ lives should be dominated by
the pattern of heaven, bringing heavenly direction to their earthly duties.” Bible Knowledge Commentary
“Jesus is the One who shows us the
paradoxical route to meaning in a chaotic and hostile world. It’s the paradox of the gospel: Strength is
found in weakness. Control is found in dependency. Power is found in surrender….God
uses the frustrations of this life and the hurt of relationships to compel us
to look beyond what we can control to the God who controls all things in order
to woo us to himself. As we move from control to surrender, we move from
chasing the wind under the sun to embracing God above it.” Dan Allender
“For
every one look within, take ten looks at Christ.” Robert
Murray M’Cheyne
“We need to keep
reminding ourselves that without the Lord we can do nothing. It needs to become
a habit of mind with each of us to tell the Lord as we tackle each task, ‘I
can’t do this without your help, please help me’, and then to expect to be
helped because we have admitted our helplessness, given up self-reliance and
are now looking to Him.” J. I.
Packer
“We
shall never find happiness by looking at our prayers, our doings, or our
feelings; it is what Jesus is, not what we are, that gives rest to the
soul. If we would at once overcome Satan
and have peace with God, it must be by ‘looking unto Jesus’. Keep thine eye simply on Him; let His death,
His sufferings, His merits, His glories, His intercession, be fresh upon thy
mind; when thou wakest in the morning look to Him; when thou liest down at
night look to Him. Oh! Let not thy hopes or fears come between thee
and Jesus; follow
hard after Him, and He will never fail thee.”
C. H. Spurgeon
“Regret looks back. Worry looks
around. Faith looks up.” John
Mason
“On Him
then reckon, to Him look, on Him depend:
and be assured that if you walk with Him, look to Him and expect help
from Him, He will never fail you. An
older brother, who has known the Lord for forty-four years, who writes this,
says for your encouragement that He has never failed him. In the greatest difficulties, in the heaviest
trials, in the deepest poverty and necessities, He has never failed me; but
because I was enabled by His grace to trust in Him, He has always appeared for
my help. I delight in speaking well of
His Name.” George Mueller
“Looking at the wound of sin will never save anyone. What you must do is look at the remedy.” D. L. Moody
“Stop resisting
Him. Stop resenting Him. Stop complaining. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. Stop demanding what you want. Stop focusing on the outer wrappings of
yourself and your circumstances. Adjust
your attitude. Change your mind about
things, about yourself, about others and about Him. Relax in total trust. He knows what He’s doing. Unwrap the package! Let go and look up! Let Him open the eyes of your heart. Open your eyes!” Anne Graham Lotz
