WHO
WILL SERVE THE LORD?
BREAD
14 “Now
fear the Lord and serve him with
all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the
River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.
15 But if
serving the Lord seems undesirable
to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the
gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in
whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:14-15 (NIV)
20 So
Ahab sent word throughout all Israel and assembled the prophets on Mount
Carmel. 21 Elijah
went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions?
If the Lord is God, follow him;
but if Baal is God, follow him.” But the people said nothing. 1 Kings 18:20-21 (NIV)
35 When
the Lord made a covenant with the
Israelites, he commanded them: “Do not worship any other gods or bow down to
them, serve them or sacrifice to them. 36 But the Lord,
who brought you up out of Egypt with mighty power and outstretched arm, is the
one you must worship. To him you shall bow down and to him offer sacrifices. 37 You must always be careful to
keep the decrees and ordinances, the laws and commands he wrote for you. Do not
worship other gods. 38 Do not
forget the covenant I have made with you, and do not worship other gods. 39 Rather, worship the Lord your God; it is he who will deliver
you from the hand of all your enemies.” 40 They would not listen, however, but persisted in their
former practices. 41 Even
while these people were worshiping the Lord,
they were serving their idols. To this day their children and grandchildren
continue to do as their fathers did. 2
Kings 17:35-41 (NIV)
113 I hate
double-minded men, but I love your law. 114 You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in
your word. Psalms 119:113-114 (NIV)
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one
and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You
cannot serve both God and Money.” Matthew 6:24 (NIV)
3 Know
that the Lord is God. It is he who
made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Psalms 100:3 (NIV)
17 The
midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told
them to do; they let the boys live. Exodus
1:17 (NIV)
16 Shadrach,
Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to
defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the
blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will
rescue us from your hand, O king. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king,
that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” Daniel 3:16-18 (NIV)

“Receiving the Father nature
of God is essential if we are to love Him and be assured of His love, trust
Him, be secure in Him, pray to Him, yield to Him, live holy before Him, receive
His guidance, serve Him, be like Him, and much more. Spend time with your
Father in His word, His love letter to you. Receive His Father love for
you.” Sylvia Gunter

“Christianity is not a religion – a set of restraining rigid rules - rather it is a loving relationship with the Living God with whom we have received access by the precious blood of Jesus and by whom - through the power of the Holy Spirit - we are equipped and blessed to walk in God’s perfect and pleasing ways.” BHY
“A
primary qualification for serving God with any amount of success, and for doing
God’s work well and triumphantly, is a sense of our own weakness. When God’s warrior marches forth to battle,
strong in his own might, when he boasts, ‘I know that I shall conquer, my own
right arm and my conquering sword shall get unto me the victory’, defeat is not
far distant. God will not go forth with
that man who marches in his own strength.
He who reckoneth on victory thus has reckoned wrongly, for ‘it is not by
might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts’. They who go forth to fight, boasting of their
prowess, shall return with their gay banners trailed in the dust, and their
armour stained with disgrace. Those who
serve God must serve Him in His own way, and in His strength, or He will never
accept their service. That which man
doth, unaided by divine strength, God can never own. The mere fruits of the earth He casteth away;
He will only reap that corn, the seed of which was sown from heaven, watered by
grace, and ripened by the sun of divine love.
God will empty out all that thou hast before He will put His own into
thee; He will first clean out the granaries before He will fill them with the
finest of the wheat……Your emptiness is but the preparation for your being
filled, and your casting down is but the making ready for your lifting up.” C. H. Spurgeon
“To love God, to serve Him because we love
Him, is…our highest happiness…Love makes all labor light. We serve with enthusiasm where we love with
sincerity.” Hannah

·
God is God. I am to
have no other “gods” before Him.
·
I cannot serve two masters.
- · God’s will for my life is perfect and pleasing. 1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2 (NIV)
