BREAD
1 Do not
envy wicked men, do not desire their company; 2 for their hearts plot
violence, and their lips talk about making trouble. Proverbs 24:1-2 (NIV)
19 Do not
fret because of evil men or be envious of the wicked, 20 for the evil man has no future
hope, and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out. Proverbs 24:19-20 (NIV)
31 Do not
envy a violent man or choose any of his ways, 32 for the Lord detests a perverse man but takes
the upright into his confidence. Proverbs
3:31-32 (NIV)
1 Do not
fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; 2 for like the grass they will
soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. 3 Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and
enjoy safe pasture. 4 Delight
yourself in the Lord and he will
give you the desires of your heart. Psalms
37:1-4 (NIV)
7 Be
still before the Lord and wait
patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry
out their wicked schemes. 8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not
fret--it leads only to evil. 9 For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in
the Lord will inherit the land. 10 A little while, and the wicked
will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found. 11 But the meek will inherit the
land and enjoy great peace. Psalms
37:7-11 (NIV)
13 Let us
behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in
sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 14 Rather, clothe yourselves with
the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the
sinful nature. Romans 13:12-14 (NIV)
1 Brothers,
I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly--mere infants in Christ. 2 I gave you milk, not solid
food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. 3 You are still worldly. For
since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you
not acting like mere men? 1 Corinthians
3:1-3 (NIV)
19 The
acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and
debauchery; 20 idolatry
and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition,
dissensions, factions 21 and
envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that
those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21 (NIV)
BUTTER
“Who
envies the fat bullock the ribbons and garlands which decorate him as he is led
to the slaughterhouse?” Charles H.
Spurgeon
“Jealousy
and envy are deeply embedded, powerfully motivating, and patently destructive
emotions. They can certainly never be
allowed to rule in the believer’s life.
Besides destroying others, it destroys the envious person as well. Shakespeare put it well: ‘O, beware, my lord, of jealousy! It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock
the meat it feeds on.’” Dr. J. D. Watson
“Many aspects of the flesh are disarmed
and eliminated by a deep apprehension of our justification by faith. Faith in
Christ cures unbelief, anxiety, and insecurity, and in so doing it cuts the
roots of envy, jealousy and a host of related egocentric fleshly patterns.” Richard
Lovelace
“There is something contagious about
a heart of love. People who are selfless with their love can make giant waves
in this world where those who cling to selfish desires cause only ripples. In
fact, those who have hearts of love view the people around them as being most
important. A heart that bears the marks of God's intimate love is not a selfish
heart. When we look directly into God's heart of love, we are transformed
forever. The selfish desires that once dominated our heart's landscapes vanish
in an instant, replaced by a desire to lavish love on others. As God begins to
transform our hearts through His grace and kindness, we become vessels willing
to reciprocate this type of love. Something happens inside of us. We begin to
realize the twofold effect of loving God and loving others - not just friends
and family, but others who cross our paths every day. Hardened hearts begin to
melt beneath the warmth of Christ's love overflowing from our lives. People who
we never thought would let the name of Jesus roll off their lips suddenly
praise Him because we have taken the time to love them the way God has
commanded us to love. Once we learn how to abide in His love, our feelings of
jealousy, greed, and anger die a quick death. A true champion extends grace and
kindness because he knows the transformation that has taken place in his own
heart, and he realizes those who receive God's love and grace have no other
course of action but to give God's love away.” Michael

I am not
to be envious or jealous of the wicked for surely they are on slippery ground.

God is my
refuge and strength. He guides me with
His counsel and afterward will take me into glory. “Whom Have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.” Psalms 73:25 (NIV)

As I
abide in God’s love, fleshly feelings of jealousy, greed and anger die a quick
death.
