Peace Is Given Not Gained Isaiah 9:6-7 Isaiah 61:10-11 Isaiah 32:17-18 Psalms 29:11 Colossians 1:19-20 Philippians 4:6-7 John 14:26-27 John 16:33 Colossians 3:15 Isaiah 26:3 06.29.20

PEACE IS GIVEN NOT GAINED
BREAD

6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end.  Isaiah 9:6-7 (NIV)

10 I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God.  For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. 11 For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign LORD will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.  Isaiah 61:10-11 (NIV)

17 The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever. 18 My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.   Isaiah 32:17-18 (NIV)

11 The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.  Psalms 29:11 (NIV)

19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.  Colossians 1:19-20 (NIV)

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)

27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”  John 14:26-27 (NIV)

33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”  John 16:33 (NIV)

15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.  Colossians 3:15 (NIV)

3 You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3 (NIV)

“God alone can bless His people, keep them, look on them with favor (make His face shine and turn His face toward them), be gracious to them, and give them peace.”  The Bible Knowledge Commentary

“Many of God’s promises are conditional on our behavior – our choices, our priorities, our motivations, our actions.  There are many “If” and “Then” statements in Scripture – promises that depend upon our behavior yet there are also many promises that are not, namely, “I will never leave you nor forsake you”, “I will not leave you as orphans”, “No one can snatch them out of my hand”, “In this world you will have trouble” (as hard as that is to swallow) followed by “but take heart!  I have overcome the world”, “I am coming soon”, etc., etc., etc.  We do ourselves a great injustice and rob ourselves of much peace if we are not thoroughly acquainted with the promises of His Word.  They are given to us for both a comfort and joy.”   BHY

Sweet Fruit John 15:1-5 Matthew 7:15-20 Psalms 1:1-3 Jeremiah 17:7-8 Galatians 5:22-25 Philippians 1:9-11 Colossians 1:10-14 06.26.20

SWEET FRUIT
BREAD

1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.  5 I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”   John 15:1-5 (NIV)

15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.”  Matthew 7:15-20 (NIV)

1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.  Psalms 1:1-3 (NIV)

7 “But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. 8 He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”  Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NIV)

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.  Galatians 5:22-25 (NIV)

9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ--to the glory and praise of God.   Philippians 1:9-11 (NIV)

10 And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.   Colossians 1:10-14 (NIV)

“To believe in the God over us and not in the God within us – that would be a powerless and fruitless faith.”   Phillips Brooks

“Our actions disclose what goes on within us, just as its fruit makes known a tree otherwise unknown to us.”  Thalassias the Libyan

“No man can put Jesus Christ to greater shame than by professing the gospel without showing the power of it.  There can be no more vile and sordid hypocrisy than for any to pretend unto inward, habitual sanctification, while their lives are barren in the fruits of righteousness and obedience.”   K. H. Von Bogatzky

“By virtue of our union with Christ we bring forth fruit.  Every bunch of grapes has been first in the root, it has passed through the stem, and flowed through the sap vessels, and fashioned itself externally into fruit, but it was first in the stem; so also every good work was first in Christ, and then is brought forth in us.  O Christian, prize this precious union to Christ; for it must be the source of all the fruitfulness which you can hope to know.  If you were not joined to Jesus Christ you would be a barren bow indeed.”  C. H. Spurgeon

“The most effective means the enemy has to keep believers from being full of the Spirit is to keep us full of ourselves.”  Beth Moore

“Total surrender to ‘the love of Christ’ is the only thing that will bear fruit in your life.  And it will always leave the mark of God’s holiness and His power, never drawing attention to your personal holiness.”  Oswald Chambers

  • ·         I can bear no fruit apart from Christ.  He is the root from which all fruit grows.

Stand Against The Schemes Of Satan Luke 4:1-13 1 Peter 5:8-9 1 Thessalonians 5:5-8 James 4:7-10 1 Corinthians 10:13 Ephesians 6:10-18 06.24.20

STAND AGAINST THE SCHEMES OF SATAN
BREAD

1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, 2 where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. 3 The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”  4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone.’”  5 The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. 6 And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7 So if you worship me, it will all be yours.”  8 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’”  9 The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. 10 For it is written:  ‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; 11 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’” 12 Jesus answered, “It says: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”  13 When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time. Luke 4:1-13 (NIV)

8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.  1 Peter 5:8-9 (NIV)

5 You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 1 Thessalonians 5:5-8 (NIV)

7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.  James 4:7-10 (NIV)

13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.  1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.   Ephesians 6:10-18 (NIV)

“Satan has, in fact, a plan against the saints of the Most High, which is to wear them out.  What is meant by this phrase, ‘wear out’?  It has in it the idea of reducing this minute, then reducing a little further the next minute.  Reduce a little today, reduce a little tomorrow.  Thus, the wearing out is almost imperceptible; nevertheless, it is reducing.  The wearing down is scarcely an activity of which one is conscious, yet the end result is that there is nothing left.  He will take away your prayer life little by little and cause you to trust God less and less and yourself more and more, a little at a time.  He will make you feel somewhat cleverer than before.  Step by step, you are misled to rely more on your own gift, and step by step, your heart is enticed away from the Lord.  Now, were Satan to strike the children of God with great force at one time, they would know exactly how to resist the enemy since they would immediately recognize his work.  He uses the method of gradualism to wear down the people of God.”   Watchman Nee

“Prayer is a shield to the soul, a sacrifice to God, and a scourge to Satan.”   John Bunyan

“Satan watches for those vessels that sail without convoy.”    George Swinnock

“The best protection against Satan’s lies is to know God’s truth.”  Anonymous

“Satan strikes either at the root of faith or at the root of diligence.”   John Livingstone

“No matter how many pleasures Satan offers you, his ultimate purpose is to ruin you.  Your destruction is his highest priority.”    Erwin Lutzer

“The only fear a Christian should entertain is the fear of sin.  All other fears are from Satan sent to confuse and weaken us.  How often the Lord reiterated to His disciples, ‘Be not afraid!’”  Isobel Kuhn

“The more public your position and the more eminent your service for God, the more dangerous is Satan’s design against you.”  William Gurnall

“Satan has been seeking to get us to question God since our original parent’s.  He subtly  implies that God is holding out on us, that He doesn’t have our best interest at heart, that He is a cruel task master bent on having us serve Him, that He doesn’t really love us or care for us.  Yet, God’s actions throughout Scripture proves differently.  He has loved us with an everlasting love.  He rejoices over us with singing.   He came to seek and to save us in our desperately lost condition.  Look at the cross if you question His love.”  BHY

HEART SAVOR

  • ·         The best defense against Satan’s lies is the truth of God’s Word.
  • ·         Don’t toy with temptation – it’s akin to playing in a viper’s nest.
  • ·         Satan hates you and seeks your ruin.  God loves you and sought your redemption.

One Thing Necessary Luke 10:38-42 Psalms 27:4 Matthew 6:25-34 Psalms 34:4-10 Philippians 3:12-14 Matthew 22:36-40 06.22.20

ONE THING NECESSARY

BREAD

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” 41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”  Luke 10:38-42 (NIV)

4 One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.  Psalms 27:4 (NIV)

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life ? 28 And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”  Matthew 6:25-34 (NIV)

4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.  5 Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. 6 This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. 7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. 8 Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. 9 Fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing. 10 The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.  Psalms 34:4-10 (NIV)

12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 3:12-14 (NIV)

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”  37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”  Matthew 22:36-40 (NIV)

“You are able to do many things.  Be sure you find the one thing you must do.”   Howard G. Hendricks

“God doesn't call the qualified. He qualifies the called.  Don't let Satan convince you otherwise. He will try. He will tell you that God has an IQ requirement or an entry fee. That he employs only specialists and experts, governments and high-powered personalities. When Satan whispers such lies, dismiss him with this truth: God stampeded the first-century society with swaybacks, not thoroughbreds. Before Jesus came along, the disciples were loading trucks, coaching soccer, and selling Slurpee drinks at the convenience store. Their collars were blue, and their hands were calloused, and there is no evidence that Jesus chose them because they were smarter or nicer than the guy next door. The one thing they had going for them was a willingness to take a step when Jesus said, ‘Follow me.’”   Max Lucado

“Need, anxiety, pain unite us all.  We share a common humanity.  We each seek a LOVE that holds our hearts and keeps us safe.  Thank God for JESUS — hope of our world.”  Paula Kirby

“The divine priority is worship first and service second.”  Richard Foster

“All kinds of emptiness find us grasping later on. In the body or in the soul, we will cling to tatters if necessary, just so that we are holding on to something.”    Kristen Kill

“The Lord sometimes suffers His people to be driven into a corner that they may experimentally know how necessary He is to them…Whatever our morning’s need may be, let it like a strong current bear us to the ocean of divine love.  Jesus can soon remove our sorrow, He delights to comfort us.  Let us hasten to Him while He waits to meet us.”  Charles H. Spurgeon

“The seed of unnecessary fear in the heart of a Christian is forgetfulness — an inability to remember and trust what the God of the universe has said and done. No one has ever had any grounds to accuse God of not following through on his word. Not even one phrase in any sentence in any statement He has ever made has failed (Joshua 21:45). We will only be truly content with what we have when we know that we have Him. And we will remember that we have him when we hear and believe his voice.”  Marshall Segal

“We think riches and honours are necessary and we must have our estates and lay up large portions for our children.  But in the day of adversity, when death looks us in the face and God causes the horror of the grave, the dread of the last judgment, and the terrors of eternity to pass before us, then we put our mouths in the dust and sigh;  ‘O how I have been mistaken!  I have fed upon ashes, and my deceived heart has turned me aside.’  We can now see how the pardon of sin, an interest in Christ, a sense of God’s love, and the assurance of glory, are the only indispensables.  Christ alone is the One thing necessary, and all others are but ‘maybes’ at best.  All the world has is but loss and dung in comparison with the excellence of the knowledge of Jesus Christ our Lord.”  Thomas Case
