SO
WORTHY
BREAD
23 Sing to the LORD, all the earth; proclaim his
salvation day after day. 24 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous
deeds among all peoples. 25 For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is
to be feared above all gods. 26 For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the
LORD made the heavens. 27 Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy
in his dwelling place. 28 Ascribe to the LORD, O families of nations, ascribe to
the LORD glory and strength, 29 ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name. Bring an
offering and come before him; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.
1 Chronicles 16:23-29 (NIV)
1 I love you, O LORD, my strength. 2 The
LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I
take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 3 I
call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies. Psalms 18:1-3 (NIV)
8 O LORD God Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty,
O LORD, and your faithfulness surrounds you. Psalms 89:8 (NIV)
39 “See now that I myself am He! There is no god besides me. I put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal, and no one can deliver out of my hand.” Deuteronomy 32:39 (NIV)
25 “‘To whom will you compare me? Or who is my
equal?’ says the Holy One. 26 Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who
created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them
each by name. Because of his great power
and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. 27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel, ‘My
way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God’? 28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard? The LORD is
the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his
understanding no one can fathom. 29 He
gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men
stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their
strength. They will soar on wings like
eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:25-31 (NIV)
1 Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly
calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we
confess. 2 He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as
Moses was faithful in all God's house. 3 Jesus
has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a
house has greater honor than the house itself. Hebrews 3:1-3 (NIV)
1 Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the
throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. 2 And
I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the
seals and open the scroll?” 3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth
could open the scroll or even look inside it. 4 I
wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or
look inside. 5 Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See,
the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to
open the scroll and its seven seals.” 6 Then
I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the
throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. He had seven
horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the
earth. 7 He came and took the scroll from the right hand of him
who sat on the throne. 8 And when he had taken it, the four living creatures
and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and
they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the
saints. 9 And they sang a new song: “You are worthy to take the
scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you
purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. 10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our
God, and they will reign on the earth.” Revelation
5:1-10 (NIV)
27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner
worthy of the gospel of Christ. Philippians

“God is not just
the appropriate object of the verbs believe, trust, fear, obey, and worship,
but also he is the most fitting, most satisfying, most worthy object of the
verb enjoy. Do you enjoy him? Not with the small
enjoyment of chuckling at a clever commercial, but the large enjoyment of
basking before an ocean. Not the thin enjoyment of humming along with a pop
song, but the thick enjoyment of a great novel’s or symphony’s long-anticipated
pinnacle. Not the shallow enjoyment of acquiring some new trinket, but the deep
enjoyment of reconnecting with a longtime friend.” David Mathis
“When it’s hard to hold on, no one holds on
to what is cool. They hold on to Christ. When it’s hard to hold on, no one holds on to what
is hip. They hold on to Him who is holy and healing. When it’s hard to hold on, we don’t hold on to
what’s trendy. We hold on to the True Vine. We don’t hold on to the prevailing
and the popular, we hold on to the Prince of Peace, the true Perfecter of our
Faith. We
only rise because of the Gospel — the astonishing news that grace has grabbed
the unworthy, and Christ cleans the unbearable, and God redeems the unlikely,
and we live the unexpected.” Ken Shigematsu
“It
is important to understand that fruitfulness and growth are the results of
focusing on Christ and desiring to honor Him.
When growth and change are our primary goals, we tend to be preoccupied
with ourselves instead of with Christ.
‘Am I growing? Am I getting any
better? Am I more like Christ today?
What am I learning?’ This
inordinate preoccupation with self-improvement parallels our culture’s
self-help and personal enhancement movement in many ways. Personal development is certainly not wrong, but
it is misleading—and it can be very disappointing—to make it our preeminent
goal. If it is our goal at all, it
should be secondary. As we grasp the
unconditional love, grace, and power of God, then honoring Christ will
increasingly be our consuming passion…The only One worthy of our preoccupation
is Christ, our sovereign Lord, who told Paul, ‘My grace is sufficient for you,
for My power is perfected in weakness’”.

“God is God. Because He is God,
He is worthy of my trust and obedience.
I will find rest nowhere but in His holy will, a will that is
unspeakably beyond my largest notions of what He is up to.” Elisabeth Elliot
“‘Can you raise your voice to the clouds and cover
yourself with a flood of water? Do you
send the lightning bolts on their way? Do
they report to you, ‘Here we are?’ And in that moment God met me with the comfort
of His Word….Here in one verse of Scripture, God answers Job’s questions
regarding suffering, with His own question. And not just one question. Three
questions in two verses. In fact, reading Job 38:1-42:6, God actually asks Job
more than seventy questions! The questions were given not to answer the mystery
of Job’s suffering nor to vindicate God Himself. They were intended to help Job
realize that God's ways are higher than man’s ways and that He is worthy of
complete trust even in the most desperate of circumstances. Even Jesus when he was dying on the cross
asked, ‘My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?’ We don't know why. But if
you know the ‘Who,’ it makes the ‘What’ and the ‘Why’ less overwhelming. When we don't know the ‘Why?’ go back to what
we do know. We know God is sovereign; God is wise; and that He loves us. Trust
Him.” Donna

God is worthy to receive
all glory and honor and praise and our very lives as well. All is His, all should be lived for Him. “For from Him and through Him and to Him are
all things. To Him be glory
forever! Amen.” Romans 11:36

God is so totally
Other and beyond all comparison or mere fleshly reason. His ways are far above our ways – no eye has
seen, ear heard nor mind conceived. Yet
He lovingly stoops to reveal Himself through His Word and His creation. What we can know through the indwelling Holy Spirit
(which every true believer in Christ has) we should make it our business to
know, trust and obey – through His power for His glory for our good.

He is so worthy of
all our praise.
