ABOUNDING
IN LOVE
BREAD
8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger,
abounding in love. 9 He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his
anger forever; 10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us
according to our iniquities. 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so
great is his love for those who fear him; 12 as
far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from
us. 13 As a father has compassion on his children, so the
LORD has compassion on those who fear him.
Psalms 103:8-13 (NIV)
5 Then the LORD came down in the cloud and stood there
with him and proclaimed his name, the LORD. 6 And
he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The LORD, the LORD, the
compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and
faithfulness, 7 maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving
wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he
punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the
third and fourth generation.” Exodus
34:4-7 (NIV)
18 “‘The LORD is slow to anger, abounding in love and
forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he
punishes the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth
generation.’ 19 In accordance with your great love, forgive the sin of
these people, just as you have pardoned them from the time they left Egypt
until now.” Numbers 14:18-19 (NIV)
16 “But they, our forefathers, became arrogant and
stiff-necked, and did not obey your commands. 17 They
refused to listen and failed to remember the miracles you performed among them.
They became stiff-necked and in their rebellion appointed a leader in order to
return to their slavery. But you are a forgiving God, gracious and
compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. Therefore you did not
desert them, 18 even when they cast for themselves an image of a calf
and said, ‘This is your god, who brought you up out of Egypt,’ or when they
committed awful blasphemies. 19 Because of your great compassion you did not abandon
them in the desert. By day the pillar of cloud did not cease to guide them on
their path, nor the pillar of fire by night to shine on the way they were to
take. 20 You gave your good Spirit to instruct them. You did
not withhold your manna from their mouths, and you gave them water for their
thirst. 21 For forty years you sustained them in the desert; they
lacked nothing, their clothes did not wear out nor did their feet become
swollen.” Nehemiah 9:16-21 (NIV)
5 You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love
to all who call to you. Psalms 86:5 (NIV)
13 Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the
LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and
abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity. 14 Who
knows? He may turn and have pity and leave behind a blessing--grain offerings
and drink offerings for the LORD your God.
Joel 2:13-14 (NIV)
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes
from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever
does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This
is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the
world that we might live through him. 10 This
is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an
atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to
love one another. 1 John 4:7-11 (NIV)
BUTTER
“We must declare the love of God in Christ Jesus. Always keep His abounding mercy connected to His unerring justice. Never exalt one attribute at the expense of another. Let boundless mercy be seen in calm consistency with stern justice and unlimited sovereignty.” C. H. Spurgeon revised by Alistair Begg
“Why does God want us to remember? God's desire for us to recall His past mercies has nothing to do with His own personal insecurities, but everything to do with us worshiping Him rightly. Every time you recall the depth of God's love for you, He is inviting you to love Him back more deeply and more fully. Every time you remember His matchless love, it brings healing and wholeness, challenging you to respond with praise and surrender. Every time you recall His immense sacrifice, it brings hope and trust that He will do it again. Remembering Him is for His glory and for our good.” Michael Youssef
“Can
you answer this, believer? Can you find any reason why you are so often
mourning instead of rejoicing? Why yield to gloomy anticipations? Who told you
that the night would never end in day? Who told you that the sea of
circumstances would ebb out till there should be nothing left but long
stretches of the mud of horrible poverty? Who told you that the winter of your
discontent would proceed from frost to frost, from snow and ice and hail to
deeper snow and yet more heavy tempest of despair? Don't you know that day
follows night, that flood comes after ebb, that spring and summer succeed
winter? Be full of hope! Hope forever!
For God does not fail you. Do you not know that God loves you in the midst of
all this? Mountains, when in darkness hidden, are as real as in day, and God's
love is as true to you now as it was in your brightest moments.” C. H. Spurgeon revised by Alistair Begg
“If the Sovereign,
Omnipotent, Omniscient God is on our side, as His child, seriously, what do we
have to fear? He, Who loves us with an
everlasting love, Who ever has His eye upon us, Who never leaves us nor forsakes
us, Who not only died to save us but has also given us the Grand Deposit of the
precious Holy Spirit to empower us to walk in a manner worthy of our high
calling all the way Home – this God, this very God is for us and not against
us. No matter what the circumstances of
your life may be bellowing out. The
world shouts fear while God whispers peace.
He will never let the righteous fall and we can trust Him with our lives
and with the lives of all we love and hold dear.” BHY
