SHINE
FORTH
BREAD
1 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the
brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 There he was transfigured before them. His
face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Matthew
17:1-2 (NIV)
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of
the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And
we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed
into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is
the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 (NIV)
5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to
you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him yet
walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the
light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son,
purifies us from all sin. 1 John 1:5-7 (NIV)
14 Do
everything without complaining or arguing, 15 so
that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a
crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe 16 as you hold out the word of life--in
order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for
nothing. Philippians 2:14-16 (NIV)
6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,”
made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the
glory of God in the face of Christ. 7 But
we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is
from God and not from us. 2 Corinthians 4:6-7 (NIV)
14 “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)

3 Those who are wise will shine like the
brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the
stars for ever and ever. Daniel 12:3
(NIV)
40 “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.
41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.” Matthew 13:40-43 (NIV)

12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never
walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 (NIV)
21 He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand? 22 For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.” Mark 4:21-23 (NIV)
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your
whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of
darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and
love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You
cannot serve both God and Money.” Matthew
6:22-24 (NIV)
5 Come, O house of Jacob, let
us walk in the light of the LORD.
Isaiah 2:5 (NIV)

“Our Light shines forth in order to point others to Christ –
the Source of our Light – and never to self – most often the source of our
darkness.” BHY
“The
saints are God’s holy people. The apostle Paul speaks about all those who
belong to Christ as ‘holy people’ or ‘saints.’ He directs
his letters to ‘those who have been consecrated in Christ Jesus and called to
be God's holy people’ (1 Corinthians 1:2; see also Ephesians 1:1). This
sanctity is the work of the Spirit of Jesus. Paul again says: ‘All of us, with
our unveiled faces like mirrors reflecting the glory of the Lord, are being
transformed into the image that we reflect in brighter and brighter glory; this
is the working of the Lord who is the Spirit’ (2 Corinthians 3:18). As saints we belong to that huge network of
God’s people that shines like a multitude of stars in the dark sky of the
universe.” Henri Nouwen
“If the grace of God were to leave
the best Christian, there is enough sin in his heart to make him the worst of
transgressors. If left to yourselves, you who are warmest for Christ would cool
down like Laodicea into sickening lukewarmness: You who are sound in the faith
would be white with the leprosy of false doctrine; you who now walk before the
Lord in excellency and integrity would reel to and fro and stagger with a
drunkenness of evil passion. Like the moon, we borrow our light; bright as we
are when grace shines on us, we are darkness itself when the Sun of
Righteousness withdraws Himself. Lord,
keep us everywhere. Keep us when we're in the valley so that we do not grumble
against Your humbling hand; keep us when we're on the mountain, so we do not
lose our balance by being lifted up; keep us in youth, when our passions are
strong; keep us in old age, when becoming conceited in our wisdom, we may
therefore prove greater fools than those who are young and silly; keep us when
we come to die, in case at the very end we should deny You! Keep us living,
keep us dying, keep us working, keep us suffering, keep us fighting, keep us
resting, keep us everywhere, for everywhere we need You, O our God!” C. H. Spurgeon revised by Alistair Begg
“Light is scattering our darkness,
but only a shade at a time; our path is ‘like the light of dawn, which shines
brighter and brighter until full day’ (Proverbs 4:18). Christ’s glory rises
over us ‘from one degree of glory to another’ (2 Corinthians 3:18). We are farmers, children, runners, travelers.
Each of these images reminds us that deep, pervasive holiness happens over a
lifetime: God’s word slowly reframes our perspective on ourselves and the
world. Jesus gradually extends his lordship over even the most ordinary of
tasks. The Spirit steadily makes obedience in certain areas habitual. God
renews us not at once, but ‘day by day’ (2 Corinthians
4:16).” Scott Hubbard
“God has called us to shine.” Dwight L. Moody
