GUARDIANS OF GOD’S TRUTH
BREAD
20 Timothy,
guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and
the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, 21 which some have professed and in so
doing have wandered from the faith. Grace be with you. 1 Timothy 6:20-21 (NIV)
13 What
you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love
in Christ Jesus. 14 Guard the good
deposit that was entrusted to you--guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit
who lives in us. 2 Timothy 1:13-14 (NIV)
14 Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before
God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who
listen. 15 Do your best to present
yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and
who correctly handles the word of truth. 16 Avoid
godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more
ungodly. 17 Their teaching
will spread like gangrene. 2 Timothy
2:14-17A (NIV)
4 Hear,
O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 Love the LORD
your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
6 These commandments that I give
you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress
them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk
along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind
them on your foreheads. 9 Write
them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:4-9 (NIV)
7 “Be
strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses
gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful
wherever you go. 8 Do not let
this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so
that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be
prosperous and successful. 9 Have
I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be
discouraged, for the LORD your God
will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua
1:7-9 (NIV)
13 Be
on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. 14 Do everything in love. 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 (NIV)
16 All
Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and
training in righteousness, 17 so
that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)
20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:20-21 (NIV)

29 The secret
things belong to the LORD our God,
but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may
follow all the words of this law. Deuteronomy 29:29 (NIV)

“Would you follow Christ? Then follow Him in self-denial, in humility, in patience, and in readiness for every good work. Follow Him with a daily cross upon your back, and look to His cross to make your burden light. Follow Him as your Guide and Guard, and learn to see with His eyes, and to trust in His arm for defense. Follow Him as the Friend of sinners, who healeth the broken in heart, and giveth rest to the weary souls, and casteth out none that come unto Him. Follow Him with faith, resting your whole acceptance with God, and your title to heaven, on His meritorious blood and righteousness. Lastly, follow Him with much prayer. For, though He is full of compassion, He loves to be much entreated; and when He is determined to give a blessing, you must yet wrestle with Him for it. Thus follow Jesus, and He will lead you to glory.” K. H. Von Bogatzky
“Because I love you, I’m asking you to guard your heart from
anyone or anything that can steal you away from Me. Remember, My love, this world
offers a counterfeit Life that will never fulfill you. What I create for you
will satisfy your soul; what the enemy offers will satisfy your flesh for a
while. However, in the end the world’s way leads to destruction. If your heart
wanders and you are not equipped with My Word, you will be unable to discern
the difference between real faith and counterfeit religion.” Sheri Rose Shepherd
“Guard your heart zealously - not to simply keep it in a particular pattern or habit by merely following a rule or regulation – rather to keep it responsive to each breath of the Spirit. He is to lead, we are to follow.” BHY

“Take heed that you do not glory in your graces, but let all
your glorying and confidence be in Christ and His strength, for this is the
only way you can be kept from falling.
Pray more often. Spend longer
periods of time in holy adoration. Read
the Scriptures more earnestly and constantly.
Watch your lives more carefully.
Live nearer to God. Take the best
examples for your pattern. Let your
conversation emit the fragrance of heaven.
Let your hearts be perfumed with affection for the souls of others. So live that others may recognize that you
have been with Jesus, and have learned of Him…On, Christian, with care and
caution! On, with holy fear and trembling! On, with faith and confidence in Jesus alone,
and let your constant petition be, ‘Sustain me according to your promise.’ He, and He alone, is able ‘to keep you from
falling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with
great joy.’” Charles H. Spurgeon
“We
may see the evangelical faith, the faith of the Gospel, everywhere spoken
against, and the apostolic message of the New Testament ridiculed. We may have to watch an increasing apostasy
in the church, as our generation abandons the faith of its fathers. Do not be afraid! God will never allow the light of the Gospel
to be finally extinguished. True, he has
committed it to us, frail and fallible creatures. He has placed His treasure in brittle,
earthenware vessels. And we must play
our part in guarding and defending the Truth.
Nevertheless, in entrusting the deposit to our hands, He has not taken
His own hands off it.” John Stott
