PERPETUAL
SPRING OF PURE DESIRE
BREAD
12 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow
like a cedar of Lebanon; 13 planted
in the house of the LORD, they
will flourish in the courts of our God. 14 They
will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, 15 proclaiming, “The LORD is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness
in him.” Psalm 92:12-15 (NIV)
4 May he give you the desire of your heart and make all
your plans succeed. 5 We will
shout for joy when you are victorious and will lift up our banners in the name
of our God. May the LORD grant all
your requests. Psalm 20:4-5 (NIV)
1 O LORD,
the king rejoices in your strength. How great is his joy in the victories you
give!
2 You have granted him the desire of his heart and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah Psalm 21:1-2 (NIV)
2 You have granted him the desire of his heart and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah Psalm 21:1-2 (NIV)
23 Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right
hand. 24 You guide me with
your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. 25 Whom have I in heaven but you? And
earth has nothing I desire besides you. 26 My
flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion
forever. Psalm
73:23-26 (NIV)
16 You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every
living thing. Psalm 145:16 (NIV)
3 “The God of
Israel spoke, the Rock of Israel said to me: ‘When one rules over men in
righteousness, when he rules in the fear of God, 4
he is like the light of morning at sunrise on a cloudless morning,
like the brightness after rain that brings the grass from the earth.’
5 Is not my house right with God? Has he not made with me an everlasting covenant, arranged and secured in every part? Will he not bring to fruition my salvation and grant me my every desire?” 2 Samuel 23:3-5 (NIV)

13 Blessed
is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, 14 for she is more profitable than silver and
yields better returns than gold. 15 She
is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. 16 Long life is in her right hand; in her left
hand are riches and honor. 17 Her
ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. 18 She is a tree of life to those
who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will be blessed. Proverbs 3:13-18 (NIV)
8 Yes, LORD, walking in the way of your laws, we
wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts. 9 My soul yearns for you in the night; in the
morning my spirit longs for you. When your judgments come upon the earth, the
people of the world learn righteousness. Isaiah
26:8-9 (NIV)
10 The
thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have
life, and have it to the full. John 10:10 (NIV)
1 The LORD is my
shepherd, I shall not be in want. 2 He
makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths
of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Even
though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for
you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence
of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all
the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Psalm
23:1-6 (NIV)
11 For the LORD
God is a sun and shield; the LORD
bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk
is blameless. 12 O LORD Almighty, blessed is the man who
trusts in you. Psalm 84:11-12 (NIV)

“It is a sure mark of grace to desire more.” Robert Murray M’Cheyne
“‘Dost thou want nothing, O
poor soul? Hast thou nothing to
ask? Oh yes! You say, a great deal. Well then, draw near to thy gracious King and
Bridegroom without fear. Lo! He holds out His golden scepter to thee,
saying, ‘Only ask: not the half, but the
whole of My kingdom shall be granted; nay, I will give myself unto thee!’ O dear soul, pray, and tell Him everything
that is wanting, be it ever so great or ever so small. His loving-kindness will hear even the least petition; nay, He will
seem to be ignorant of what thou dost not tell Him. But whatever is poured out before Him is
actually addressed and lodged in its proper place, and does not lie upon thy
heart any longer, but upon His heart, which cannot rest till you are
relieved. And if you have experienced
His help aforetime in great or small things, you may depend on His readiness to
help you out of troubles hereafter; only be earnest in prayer for His
help. We often imagine we were willing
and drawing near to Him, but He was unwilling, and refused our request; but it
is not so: He rather draws us, and
desires our relief more than we do; for it is He that works even this willing mind.” K.H.
Von Bogatzky
“Desire only God, and your heart
will be satisfied.” Augustine
“This
morning let us hear the Lord Jesus speak to each one of us: ‘I will help
thee’. ‘It is but a small thing for Me,
thy God, to help thee. Consider what I
have done already. What! Not help thee? Why, I bought thee with My blood. What!
Not help thee? I have died for
thee; and if I have done the greater, will I not do the less? Help thee!
It is the least thing I will ever do for thee; I have done more, and
will do more. Before the world began I
chose thee. I made the covenant for
thee. I laid aside My glory and became a
man for thee; I gave My life for thee; and if I did all this, I will surely
help thee now. In helping thee, I am
giving thee what I have bought for thee already. If thou hadst need of a thousand times as
much help, I would give it thee; thou requirest little compared with what I am
ready to give. ‘Tis much for thee to
need, but it is nothing for me to bestow.
“Help thee?” Fear not! If there were an ant at the door of thy granary
asking for help, it would not ruin thee to give him a handful of thy wheat; and
thou art nothing but a tiny insect at the door of my all sufficiency. “I will help thee”.’ O my soul, is not this enough? Dost thou need more strength than the
omnipotence of the United Trinity? Dost thou want more wisdom than exists in the Father, more
love than displays itself in the Son, or more power than is manifest in the
influences of the Spirit? Bring hither
thine empty pitcher! Surely this well
will fill it. Haste, gather up thy
wants, and bring them there – thine emptiness, thy woes, thy needs. Behold, this river of God is full for thy
supply; what canst thou desire beside?
Go forth, my soul, in this thy might.
The Eternal God is thine helper!” C. H.
Spurgeon
“…..dear desire of every nation, joy of every longing
heart.” Charles Wesley
“To be rebuffed by a loved one causes pain not to be compared with
the cruelties inflicted by an enemy. So your indifference and
unresponsiveness to My call brings anguish to My soul, indeed, deeper grief
than the crimes of the reprobate sinner. I have laid My rod upon the sinner,
but I have laid My hand upon you. And I have put My arm around you to
draw you closer, but you have been impatient and irritable as though I sought
to interfere with your liberty. I am able to give you greater liberty than you will ever
find by seeking to be independent of Me. I seek not to interfere with your happiness, but I do require that you
relinquish your will; for I cannot bless you as I desire until your will is
yielded up and you accept Mine in exchange. As you love Me, you
accept My will as your own, and the caliber and extent of your love for Me may
be accurately measured to the degree that you accept My will with a peaceful
heart. You can best sing ‘My
Jesus, I Love You’ when you can truly sing ‘Where He Leads Me, I Will Follow.’ For whoever does not take up his
cross daily to follow Me cannot be My disciple.” Frances
J. Roberts
“But
the question to precede all others, which finally determines the course of our
lives is, 'What do I really want?' Was it to love what God commands, in the
words of the collect, and to desire what He promises? Did I want what I wanted,
or did I want what He wanted, no matter what it might cost?” Elisabeth Elliot
“…Jesus showed us what God really wants to
cleanse and purify—our hearts. Christ’s transforming work on the cross helps us
to break free from desires that hold us in bondage. As we submit to God, we
become like Christ, no longer wanting to offend God. Out of gratitude we obey
Him from the inside out.” Tremper Longman
HEART SAVOR
·
Jesus came to give us life to the full – overflowing –
exceedingly, abundantly above all we can ask or imagine. Do we really want to miss out on His best by
striving against the wind for our own measly ways?
·
God satisfies completely, abundantly and we are then no
longer needy people, painful to be around.
·
When our hearts desire is Him then we are truly satisfied. It is never God plus something else that satisfies
the soul. It is God alone.
