14 Is anything too hard for the LORD?
Genesis
18:14 (NIV)
37 “For nothing is impossible with God.” Luke 1:37 (NIV)
27 Jesus replied, “What is
impossible with men is possible with God.” Luke 18:27 (NIV)
17 “Ah, Sovereign LORD,
you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched
arm. Nothing is too hard for you. 18 You
show love to thousands but bring the punishment for the fathers' sins into the
laps of their children after them. O great and powerful God, whose name is the LORD Almighty, 19 great are your purposes and mighty are your
deeds. Your eyes are open to all the ways of men; you reward everyone according
to his conduct and as his deeds deserve. 20 You
performed miraculous signs and wonders in Egypt and have continued them to this
day, both in Israel and among all mankind, and have gained the renown that is
still yours.” Jeremiah 32:17-20 (NIV)
13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid.
Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD
will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The LORD
will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:13-14 (NIV)
19 Then I said to the nobles, the officials and the rest
of the people, “The work is extensive and spread out, and we are widely
separated from each other along the wall. 20 Wherever
you hear the sound of the trumpet, join us there. Our God will fight for us!” Nehemiah
4:19-20 (NIV)
1 Contend, O LORD,
with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me. 2 Take up shield and buckler; arise and come
to my aid. 3 Brandish spear and
javelin against those who pursue me. Say to my soul, “I am your salvation.” Psalm
35:1-3 (NIV)
1 I love you, O LORD,
my strength. 2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my
deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the
horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 3 I
call to the LORD, who is worthy of
praise, and I am saved from my enemies. 4 The
cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me. 5 The cords of the grave coiled around me; the
snares of death confronted me. 6 In
my distress I called to the LORD; I
cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before
him, into his ears. 7 The earth
trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled
because he was angry. 8 Smoke rose
from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out
of it. 9 He parted the heavens and
came down; dark clouds were under his feet. 10 He
mounted the cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind. 11 He made darkness his covering, his
canopy around him-- the dark rain clouds of the sky. 12 Out of the brightness of his presence
clouds advanced, with hailstones and bolts of lightning. 13 The LORD
thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded. 14 He shot his arrows and scattered [the
enemies], great bolts of lightning and routed them. 15 The valleys of the sea were exposed and
the foundations of the earth laid bare at your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of breath from your
nostrils. 16 He reached down
from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. 17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from
my foes, who were too strong for me. 18 They
confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support. 19 He
brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.
Psalm
18:1-19 (NIV)
20 So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it
immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled
around, foaming at the mouth. 21 Jesus
asked the boy's father, “How long has he been like
this?” “From childhood,” he answered.
22 “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” 23 “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for him who believes.” 24 Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” Mark 9:20-24 (NIV)
25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished
and asked, “Who then can be saved?” 26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are
possible.” Matthew 19:25-26 (NIV)
26 The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, “Who then can be saved?”
27 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” Mark 10:26-27 (NIV)
22 This righteousness from God comes through faith
in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of
the glory of God, 24 and are
justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
25 God presented him as a
sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate
his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed
beforehand unpunished-- 26 he
did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the
one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. Romans
3:22-26 (NIV)
BREAD
“Can
the elder son in me come home? Can I be found as the younger son was found? How
can I return when I am lost in resentment, when I am caught in jealousy, when I
am imprisoned in obedience and duty lived out as slavery? It is clear that
alone, by myself, I cannot find myself. More daunting than healing myself as
the younger son, is healing myself as the elder son. Confronted here with the
impossibility of self-redemption, I now understand Jesus’ words to Nicodemus:
‘Do not be surprised when I say; ‘You must be born from above.’’ Indeed,
something has to happen that I myself cannot cause to happen. I cannot be
reborn from below; that is, with my own strength, with my own mind with my own
psychological insights…I can only be healed from above, from where God reaches
down. What is impossible for me is possible for God. ‘With God, everything is
possible’.” Henri
Nouwen
“It
is impossible for that man to despair who remembers that his Helper is
omnipotent.” Jeremy Taylor
“Christians
shouldn’t be surprised when, in seeking to do God’s will, we find ourselves
trapped in painful, frightening, difficult, or impossible situations. Life is hard – especially for Christians.” Robert
J. Morgan
“There are such difficulties in the
way of our salvation as could never be overcome but by that grace of God which
is almighty. ‘What is impossible with
men is possible with God.’ His grace can work
on the soul, so as to alter the bent and bias of it, and give it a contrary
leaning.” Matthew Henry
“Sometimes the
enemy seems to get an advantage over us; but the battle is not over yet.
At last thou shalt have the victory, and carry the day for all that. In
hard struggles remember the power of Christ, who, in his resurrection, broke
through everything. With him thou canst also break through, and be more
than conqueror. Yea, in every conflict, if thy faith be firm, thou canst
be sure of victory beforehand; for faith engages Christ’s power, and his power
ensureth victory; it is as impossible for thine enemies to keep thee always in
bonds, as it was impossible that Christ could be kept in the grave by the
stone, seal, and keepers. Nay, the greater their force is, the more
glorious will be the victory of Christ over them.” K. H.
Von Bogatzky
“We
will never put God in a nice little convenient proverbial box of our own
makings and imaginations. He is so
totally other – His thoughts are not our thoughts neither His ways our ways. His path for us are always perfect and pleasing
and have our best interest at heart though unimaginatively hard. His ways may not lead us into comfort and
painlessness. Indeed, His children should
not expect to be carried into heaven on a bed of down though He can do so if He
so desires. More often than not, His
ways lead us into circumstances “far beyond our ability to endure” to demonstrate
to the unbelieving world (and to ourselves for that matter) His power in our
lives whether it be by miraculously changing our circumstances or just as miraculously (or even more so), by changing
our hearts through the circumstances. His good ways will always lead us on paths
of conformation to the fullness of His precious Son – that’s the purpose. He wants us to be like Jesus – whatever it
takes - and we want that too. That is
the abundant life.” BHY
“From my inmost soul I delight in the knowledge
that God does or permits all things, and causes all things to work together for
good to those who love Him. He and He
only knew what my dear wife was to me.
He knew how the light of my eyes and the joy of my heart were in
her. On the last day of her life – we
had no idea that it would be the last – our hearts were mutually delighted by
the never-old story of each other’s love…and almost her last act was, with one
arm round my neck, to place her hand on my head and, as I believe, for her lips
had lost their cunning, to implore a blessing on me. But He saw that it was good to take her –
good indeed for her, and in His love He took her painlessly – and not less good
for me who now must toil and suffer alone, yet not alone, for God is nearer to
me than ever.” Hudson Taylor
“Faith does not operate in the realm of
the possible. There is no glory for God
in that which is humanly possible. Faith
begins where man’s power ends.” George
Mueller
“Faith sees the
invisible, believes the unbelievable, and receives the impossible.” Corrie ten Boom
“When God gives an assignment, it is no
longer an impossibility, but rather it is an absolute certainty. When God gives
you a seemingly impossible task, the only thing preventing it from coming to
pass is your disobedience. When God speaks, it can scare you to death! He will
lead you to do things that are absolutely impossible in your own strength. But
God will grant you victory, step by step, as you obey Him. God wants to do the
impossible through your life. All He requires is your obedience.” Henry Blackaby, Richard Blackaby
“The
only ground on which God can forgive our sin and reinstate us to His favor is
through the Cross of Christ. There is no
other way! Forgiveness, which is so easy
for us to accept, cost the agony at Calvary.
We should never take the forgiveness of sin, the gift of the Holy
Spirit, and our sanctification in simple faith, and then forget the enormous
cost to God that made all of this ours.
Forgiveness is the divine miracle of grace. The cost to God was the Cross of Christ. To forgive sin, while remaining a holy God,
this price had to be paid. Never accept
a view of the fatherhood of God if it blots out the atonement. The revealed truth of God is that without the
atonement He cannot forgive – He would contradict His nature if He did. The only way we can be forgiven is by being
brought back to God through the atonement of the Cross. God’s forgiveness is possible only in the
supernatural realm……Once you realize all that it cost
God to forgive you, you will be held as in a vise, constrained by the love of
God.” Oswald
Chambers
“God is looking for people through whom He can do the impossible. What a pity when we plan only the things we
can do by ourselves.” A.W. Tozer
