WEARY
OF WEARY?
BREAD
28 Do you
not know? Have you not heard? The Lord
is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow
tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men
stumble and fall; 31 but
those who hope in the Lord will
renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and
not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:28-31 (NIV)
4 The
Sovereign Lord has given me an
instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me
morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught. Isaiah 50:4 (NIV)
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will
give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and
humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my
yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
9 Let us
not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest
if we do not give up. 10 Therefore,
as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who
belong to the family of believers. Galatians
6:8-10 (NIV)
1 Therefore,
since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off
everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run
with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus,
the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured
the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of
God. 3 Consider
him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow
weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:1-3
(NIV)
2 We
sent Timothy, who is our brother and God's fellow worker in spreading the
gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you in your faith, 3 so that no one would be
unsettled by these trials. You know quite well that we were destined for them. 1 Thessalonians 3:2-3 (NIV)
33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have
peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the
world.” John 16:33 (NIV)
14 But
thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and
through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. 2 Corinthians 2:14 (NIV)
“Let
the beloved of the Lord rest
secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests between his shoulders.” Deuteronomy 33:12 (NIV)

“Satan
has, in fact, a plan against the saints of the Most High, which is to wear them
out. What is meant by this phrase, ‘wear
out’? It has in it the idea of reducing
this minute, then reducing a little further the next minute. Reduce a little today, reduce a little
tomorrow. Thus, the wearing out is
almost imperceptible; nevertheless, it is reducing. The wearing down is scarcely an activity of
which one is conscious, yet the end result is that there is nothing left. He will take away your prayer life little by
little and cause you to trust God less and less and yourself more and more, a
little at a time. He will make you feel
somewhat cleverer than before. Step by
step, you are misled to rely more on your own gift, and step by step, your
heart is enticed away from the Lord.
Now, were Satan to strike the children of God with great force at one
time, they would know exactly how to resist the enemy since they would
immediately recognize his work. He uses
the method of gradualism to wear down the people of God.” Watchman Nee
“A
noted scientist observing that ‘early voyagers fancied that the coral-building
animals instinctively built up the great circles of the Atoll Islands to afford
themselves protection in the inner parts,’ has disproved this fancy by showing
that the insect builders can only live and thrive fronting the open ocean, and
in a highly aerated foam of its resistless billows. So it has been commonly thought that
protected ease is the most favorable condition of life, whereas all the noblest
and strongest lives prove on the contrary that the endurance of hardship is the
making of the men, and the factor that distinguishes between existence and vigorous
vitality. Hardship makes character.” Mrs. Charles E. Cowman
“In God's hands intended evil becomes eventual good. Joseph tied himself to the pillar of this promise and held on for dear life. Nothing in his story glosses over the presence of evil. Quite the contrary. Bloodstains, tearstains are everywhere. Joseph's heart was rubbed raw against the rocks of disloyalty and miscarried justice. Yet time and time again God redeemed the pain. The torn robe became a royal one. The pit became a palace. The broken family grew old together. The very acts intended to destroy God's servant turned out to strengthen him.” Max Lucado
“Many voices ask for our attention. There is a voice that says, ‘Prove that you are a good person.’ Another voice says, ‘You'd better be ashamed of yourself.’ There also is a voice that says, ‘Nobody really cares about you,’ and one that says, ‘Be sure to become successful, popular, and powerful.’ But underneath all these often very noisy voices is a still, small voice that says, ‘You are my Beloved, my favor rests on you.’ That's the voice we need most of all to hear. To hear that voice, however, requires special effort; it requires solitude, silence, and a strong determination to listen. That's what prayer is. It is listening to the voice that calls us ‘my Beloved.’” Henri Nouwen
