OUR
MATCHLESS KING
BREAD
5 “To
whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we
may be compared?” Isaiah 46:5 (NIV)
9 Remember
the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am
God, and there is none like me. 10 I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient
times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all
that I please. Isaiah 46:9-10 (NIV)
28 Do you
not know? Have you not heard? The Lord
is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow
tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men
stumble and fall; 31 but
those who hope in the Lord will
renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and
not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:28-31 (NIV)
4 He is
the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who
does no wrong, upright and just is he. Deuteronomy
32:4 (NIV)
39 Acknowledge
and take to heart this day that the Lord
is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other. Deuteronomy 4:39 (NIV)
14 Is
anything too hard for the Lord? Genesis 18:14 (NIV)
21 Yet
this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: 22 Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is your
faithfulness. 24 I say
to myself, “The Lord is my
portion; therefore I will wait for him.” Lamentations 3:21-24 (NIV)
33 Oh,
the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable
his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! 34 “Who has known the mind of the
Lord? Or who has been his counselor?” 35 “Who has ever given to God, that God should repay him?”
36 For
from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory
forever! Amen. Romans 11:33-36 (NIV)

“Only
Thou art holy; There is none beside, Thee Perfect in power, In love, and
purity.” Reginald Heber
“Awake,
my soul and sing of Him who died for thee; and hail Him as thy matchless King
through all eternity.” Matthew
Bridges/Godfrey Thring
“To have found God and still to pursue Him is the soul’s paradox of love, scorned indeed by the too easily satisfied religionist, but justified in happy experience by the children of the burning heart.” A.W. Tozer
“I’ll never forget being prayed for by Ray, a friend whose
world is one filled with material poverty, homelessness, setbacks and empty
hands. Ray prayed strong and spontaneous – that I, the pastor of the big church
from Nashville, Tennessee who writes books and has a blog and lives in a comfy
house and has never been concerned about missing a meal and has always been
able to pay his bills – would know the security of the Father’s care, the smile
of the Father’s love, the freedom of the Father’s grace, the intimacy of the
Father’s arms, the friendship of the Father’s family, and the abundance of the Father’s provision. Ray
prayed as a man who, possessing close to nothing, possessed all things. He
prayed as a man with empty hands but a full heart. He prayed as a man with
abundant gratitude, as if he had a secret treasure stored up in a world that I
had only heard and talked about, but perhaps had not yet seen. In that moment, I began to wonder which of us
was really living large and which was living in scarcity. I began to wonder
which of us was running with two legs and which of us was running with one. I
began to wonder which of us was carrying the aces and which of us was carrying
an empty hand. As Luther aptly said, ‘We are all
beggars, this is true.’ Because, rich or
poor or somewhere in between, everything minus Jesus equals nothing. And Jesus plus nothing equals everything.” Scott Sauls
“The winds
hushed by his finger uplifted, the waves calmed by his voice, so that they
became solid as marble beneath his tread; the tempest, cowering at his feet, as
before a conqueror whom it knew and obeyed; these things, these stormy
elements, the wind, the tempest, and the water, gave full proof of his abundant
power. The lame man leaping, the deaf man hearing, the dumb man singing, the
dead rising, these, again, were proofs that he was the “power of God.” When the
voice of Jesus startled the shades of Hades, and rent the bonds of death, with
“Lazarus come forth!” and when the carcase rotten in the tomb woke up to life,
there was proof of his divine power and godhead. A thousand other proofs he
afforded; but we need not stay to mention them to you who have Bibles in your
houses, and who can read them every day. At last he yielded up his life, and
was buried in the tomb. Not long, however, did he sleep; for he gave another
proof of his divine power and godhead, when starting from his slumber, he
affrighted the guards with the majesty of his grandeur, not being held by the
bonds of death, they being like green twigs before our conquering Samson, who
had meanwhile pulled up the gates of hell, and carried them on his shoulders
far away.” Charles H. Spurgeon
