LOVINGLY
BLESSED
BREAD
1 Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and
sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and
he began to teach them, saying: 3 “Blessed are the
poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those
who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” Matthew 5:1-12 (NIV)

22 The LORD said
to Moses, 23 “Tell Aaron and his
sons, This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them: 24 The LORD
bless you and keep you; 25 the LORD make his face shine upon you and be
gracious to you; 26 the LORD turn his face toward you and give
you peace.” 27 “So they will put my
name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.” Numbers 6:22-27 (NIV)
1 Blessed
are all who fear the LORD, who
walk in his ways. 2 You will eat
the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. 3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within
your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table. 4 Thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD. 5 May
the LORD bless you from Zion all
the days of your life; may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem, 6 and may you live to see your children’s
children. Peace be upon Israel. Psalm 128:1-6 (NIV)
1 Praise the LORD. Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds great delight in his commands. 2 His children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. 3 Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever. 4 Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man. 5 Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice. 6 Surely he will never be shaken; a righteous man will be remembered forever. 7 He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD. 8 His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will look in triumph on his foes. 9 He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor, his righteousness endures forever; his horn will be lifted high in honor. 10 The wicked man will see and be vexed, he will gnash his teeth and waste away; the longings of the wicked will come to nothing. Psalm 112:1-10 (NIV)

33 Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and
knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing
out! 34 “Who has known the mind of
the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?” 35 “Who
has ever given to God, that God should repay him?”
36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen. Romans 11:33-36 (NIV)

“God
alone can bless His people, keep them, look on them with favor (make His face shine and turn His face toward them), be gracious to them, and give them peace.” The Bible Knowledge
Commentary
“As long as we meddle with any kind of sin we shall
never clearly see the blessed face of our Lord.” Julian of Norwich
“We came into this world wretched, miserable, and
undone creatures, in cruel bondage to sin and Satan, under guilt and under
wrath, hostile toward God—the fountain of blessedness—and in a state of
condemnation leading to everlasting destruction. But when a man is converted,
he is brought out of that state of woe and misery into a sure title to glory,
honor, and peace forever. When once a man is converted, all this blessedness
that we have heard of is his; he has an absolute right to it. God’s work is
accomplished for it; His faithful promise is given.” Jonathan Edwards
“Blessed are
the single-hearted; for they shall enjoy much peace.” Thomas
a Kempis
“God does not discipline us to subdue us, but to
condition us for a life of usefulness and blessedness.” Billy Graham
“We
must remember that God will never drag us along the path of true-hearted
discipleship. This would greatly lack the moral excellency which characterizes
all the ways of God. He does not drag, but draws us along the path which leads
to ineffable blessedness in Himself; and if we do see that it is for our real
advantage to break through all the barriers of nature, in order to respond to
Gods’ call, we forsake our own mercies. But alas! Our hearts little enter into
this. We begin to calculate about the sacrifices, the hindrances, and the
difficulties, instead of bounding along the path, in eagerness of soul, as
knowing and loving the One whose call has sounded in our ears”. C H Macintosh
“The height of joy isn’t simply to be blessed — but to become the blessing. The height of joy isn’t to have blessings actualized — but to become the actual blessing. Not to be blessed with stuff — but to become the blessing in service.” Ann Voskamp
“Though
salvation is not by the works of the law, yet the blessings which are promised
to obedience are not denied to the faithful servants of God. The curses our Lord took away when He was
made a curse for us, but no clause of blessing has been abrogated. We are to note and listen to the revealed
will of the Lord, giving our attention not to portions of it but to ‘all these
words.’ There must be no picking and
choosing but an impartial respect to all that God has commanded. This is the road of blessedness for the
Father and for His children. The Lord’s
blessing is upon His chosen to the third and fourth generation. If they walk uprightly before Him, He will
make all men know that they are a seed which the Lord has blessed.” Charles H. Spurgeon
