RELY
ON THE LORD
BREAD
10 Who
among you fears the LORD and obeys the word of his servant? Let him who walks in the dark, who has no
light, trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God. Isaiah 50:10 (NIV)
5 For
you have been my hope, O Sovereign LORD, my confidence since my youth. 6 From birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth
from my mother’s womb. I will ever
praise you. 7 I have become like a portent to many, but you are my
strong refuge. 8 My
mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long. Psalms 71:5-8 (NIV)
15 Our
forefathers went down into Egypt, and we lived there many years. The Egyptians
mistreated us and our fathers, 16 but when we cried out to the LORD, he heard our cry
and sent an angel and brought us out of Egypt.
Numbers 20:15-16 (NIV)
20 They
were helped in fighting them, and God handed the Hagrites and all their allies
over to them, because they cried out to him during the battle. He answered
their prayers, because they trusted in him.
1 Chronicles 5:20 (NIV)
4 In
you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. 5 They
cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not
disappointed. Psalms 22:4-5 (NIV)
16 But I call to God, and the LORD saves me. 17 Evening,
morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice. 18 He
ransoms me unharmed from the battle waged against me, even though many oppose
me. 19 God,
who is enthroned forever, will hear them and afflict them-- Selah men
who never change their ways and have no fear of God. Psalms 55:16-19 (NIV)
11 Then
Asa called to the LORD his God and said, “LORD, there is no one like you to
help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on
you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. O LORD, you are our
God; do not let man prevail against you.”
2 Chronicles 14:11 (NIV)
8 We
do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered in
the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to
endure, so that we despaired even of life. 9 Indeed,
in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might
not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. 10 He
has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we
have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us. 2 Corinthians 1:8-10 (NIV)
13 We
know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. 14 And
we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of
the world. 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God,
God lives in him and he in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. 1 John 4:13-16 (NIV)
7 Some
trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our
God. 8 They
are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm. Psalms 20:7-8 (NIV)

“Only a fraction of the present body of
professing Christians are solidly appropriating the justifying work of Christ
in their lives. Many have so light an
apprehension of God’s holiness and of the extent and guilt of their sin that
consciously they see little need for justification, although below the surface
of their lives they are deeply guilt-ridden and insecure. Many others have a theoretical commitment to
this doctrine, but in their day-to-day existence they rely on their sanctification
for justification….drawing their assurance of acceptance with God from their
sincerity…their recent religious performance or the relative infrequency of
their conscious, willful disobedience.
Few start each day with a thoroughgoing stand upon Luther’s platform:
you are accepted, looking outward in faith and claiming the wholly alien
righteousness of Christ as the only ground for acceptance, relaxing in that
quality of trust which will produce increasing sanctification as faith is
active in love and gratitude.” Richard Lovelace
“We need to
feel our need. Where real need is not felt, there is rarely any real praying.
Our places of desperation are the places of God’s revelation of His power.” Jon Bloom
“To understand
and embrace God’s vision, we must first ask Him for it. The Bible tells us we
have not because we ask not--and sometimes when we do ask, we ask with selfish
rather than God-honoring motives. But God promises us, ‘Call to me and I will
answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know’
(Jeremiah 33:3). God wishes to reveal Himself to us, but we must first ask with
pure motives and persistence. The word
for ‘call’ in this verse means to do so continuously. We are commanded to ask
continuously until God reveals His vision to us. Persistence teaches us to rely
on God while He is shaping our hearts to delight in Him. God does a wonderful work in us when we seek
His will. As we seek Him for His will, we learn who He is and begin to delight
in Him and His will rather than our own. As He becomes the desire of our
hearts, we are aligned and ready to receive His will and vision for our lives.”

“Go with what you know to be true instead of
being paralyzed with what you do not know.
This is essential in the walk of faith.
Not everything has a clear green light.
Instead of sitting at the water’s edge, terrified on the shores of
indecision - stagnant - waiting blithely for a miracle, get up, start working
with what you know to do and go forward.
Simply keep doing the next right thing.
God loves it when we move in faith.
We may not have all the answers but He surely does.” BHY
“To serve and
honor God at every turn in life, we must follow the voice of the Holy Spirit
and not our flesh. In our desire to live holy and righteous lives, we must
determine to rely upon Him for guidance and direction. When we do, we will
avoid potential pitfalls and heartache.”

“When your perceptions tell you something
different than God’s promises, always,
always, always trust God’s promises over your perceptions.” Jon Bloom
“How much do you value who God is? How much do you value what God has
done for you? How much do you rely daily on what God promises to do for you?
How much worth do you place on your relationship with Him?”
Michael Youssef
“I Myself am the direct Source and the only Source of
eternal life. Every other well is
dry. Every other pursuit is vain.” Frances J. Roberts
