THE
LOVE OF GOD
BREAD
16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his
one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have
eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
but to save the world through him.” John
3:16-17 (NIV)
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall
trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: “For your sake we
face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 No, in all these things we are more
than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For
I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither
the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither
height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate
us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans
8:35-39 (NIV)
5 And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that
addresses you as sons: “My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and
do not lose heart when he rebukes you, 6 because
the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a
son.” 7 Endure hardship as
discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his
father? 8 If you are not
disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate
children and not true sons. 9 Moreover,
we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it.
How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! 10 Our fathers disciplined us for a
little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we
may share in his holiness. 11 No
discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it
produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained
by it. Hebrews 12:5-11 (NIV)
3 The LORD
appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love;
I have drawn you with loving-kindness.”
Jeremiah 31:3 (NIV)
4 I led them with cords of human kindness, with ties of love; I lifted the yoke from their neck and bent down to feed them. Hosea 11:4 (NIV)
17 “The LORD
your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he
will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah
3:17 (NIV)
6 You see, at just the right time, when we were
still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:6-8 (NIV)

9 This
is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the
world that we might live through him. 10 This
is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an
atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear
friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1
John 4:9-11 (NIV)
1 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us,
that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason
the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Dear friends, now we are children of
God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he
appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 Everyone who has this hope in him
purifies himself, just as he is pure.
1 John 3:1-3 (NIV)
16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is
love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. 1 John 4:16 (NIV)
1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:1-2 (NIV)
5 For
the LORD is good and his love
endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all
generations. Psalm 100:5 (NIV)
BUTTER
“Doubt not His grace because of thy tribulation, but believe that He loveth thee as much in seasons of trouble as in times of happiness.” Charles Spurgeon
“I know He tries
me only to increase my faith, and that is all in love. Well, if He is glorified, I am content.” J.
Hudson Taylor
“Our Creator is
infinitely good, and His will is love: to submit to one who is ‘too wise to
err, too good to be unkind,’ should not be hard.” C.H.
Spurgeon
“Once you realize all that it cost God to forgive you,
you will be held as in a vise, constrained by the love of God.” Oswald Chambers
“O
love that wilt not let me go, I rest my weary soul in Thee. I give Thee back the life I owe, that in
Thine ocean depths its flow, may richer fuller be. O light that followest all my way, I yield my
flickering torch to Thee. My heart
restores its borrowed ray, that in thy sunshine’s blaze its day, may brighter
fairer be. O joy that seekest me through
pain, I cannot close my heart to Thee. I
trace the rainbow through the rain, and feel the promise is not vain, that morn
shall tearless be. O cross that liftest
up my head, I dare not ask to fly from Thee.
I lay in dust life’s glory dead, and from the ground there blossoms red,
life that shall endless be.” George
Matheson
“He who is filled with love is filled with God
Himself.” Augustine
“Jesus, Thou art all compassion, pure, unbounded love Thou art.” Charles Wesley
“Love Him totally who gave Himself totally for your love.” Claire of Assisi
“For the love of
God is broader than the measures of man’s mind; and the heart of the Eternal is
most wonderfully kind.” Frederick William Faber
“God’s love is
always supernatural, always a miracle, always the last thing we deserve.” Robert
Horn
“Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me
so.” Anna
Bartlett Warner
“All the commandments of God are commandments
of love tending to our real good and great happiness; far from being grievous
to those who have faith and love, the practice thereof is life and peace. The world may think it a grievous burden;
but this is a great mistake indeed. Sin
is grievous. In hatred, envy, anger,
revenge, pride, there is nothing but torment and slavery; but in love there is
a sweet rest and pleasure. Thus a sinner
always punishes himself, and is robbed of great peace and blessing, by
transgressing the commandments of God.” K. H.
Von Bogatzky
“God soon turns from His wrath, but He never turns
from His love.” Charles Spurgeon
“Human love is capable of great things. What then must be the depth and height and
intensity of divine love?” Lord
Shaftesbury
