THE
BATTLE IS HIS
BREAD
13 Moses
answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the
deliverance the LORD will bring
you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The LORD
will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus
14:13-14 (NIV)
29 Then
I said to you, “Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of them. 30 The LORD
your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in
Egypt, before your very eyes, 31 and
in the desert. There you saw how the LORD
your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until
you reached this place.” Deuteronomy 1:29-31 (NIV)
21 At
that time I commanded Joshua: “You have seen with your own eyes all that the LORD your God has done to these two
kings. The LORD will do the same
to all the kingdoms over there where you are going. 22 Do not be afraid of them; the LORD your God himself will fight for
you.” Deuteronomy 3:21-22 (NIV)
16 Shadrach,
Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to
defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If
we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us
from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. 18 But
even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your
gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” Daniel
3:16-18 (NIV)
47 “All those gathered here will know
that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD
saves; for the battle is the LORD’s,
and he will give all of you into our hands.” 1 Samuel 17:47
(NIV)
15 He
said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This
is what the LORD says to you: ‘Do
not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not
yours, but God’s.’” 2 Chronicles 20:15 (NIV)
7 “Be
strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of
Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than
with him.
8 With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the LORD our God to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people gained confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said. 2 Chronicles 32:7-8 (NIV)

3 For
though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the
weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish
strongholds. 5 We demolish
arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of
God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2
Corinthians 10:3-5 (NIV)
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Ephesians 6:10-18 (NIV)

17 “Ah,
Sovereign LORD, you have made the
heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too
hard for you.” Jeremiah 32:17 (NIV)
7 Lift up your heads, O you gates; be lifted up, you ancient
doors, that the King of glory may come in. 8 Who
is this King of glory? The LORD
strong and mighty, the LORD mighty
in battle. 9 Lift up your heads, O
you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.
10 Who is he, this King of glory? The
LORD Almighty-- he is the King of
glory. Selah Psalm
24:7-10 (NIV)

“A
primary qualification for serving God with any amount of success, and for doing
God’s work well and triumphantly, is a sense of our own weakness. When God’s warrior marches forth to battle,
strong in his own might, when he boasts, ‘I know that I shall conquer, my own
right arm and my conquering sword shall get unto me the victory’, defeat is not
far distant. God will not go forth with
that man who marches in his own strength.
He who reckoneth on victory thus has reckoned wrongly, for ‘it is not by
might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts’. They who go forth to fight, boasting of their
prowess, shall return with their gay banners trailed in the dust, and their
armour stained with disgrace. Those who
serve God must serve Him in His own way, and in His strength, or He will never
accept their service. That which man
doth, unaided by divine strength, God can never own. The mere fruits of the earth He casteth away;
He will only reap that corn, the seed of which was sown from heaven, watered by
grace, and ripened by the sun of divine love.
God will empty out all that thou hast before He will put His own into
thee; He will first clean out the granaries before He will fill them with the
finest of the wheat……Your emptiness is but the preparation for your being
filled, and your casting down is but the making ready for your lifting up.” C. H. Spurgeon
“Because what we all need in our battles is with-ness and witness.
Brokenness needs with-ness and witness — someone to stand with us and someone to see us.” Ann Voskamp
“Sometimes the enemy seems to get an
advantage over us; but the battle is not over yet. At last thou shalt
have the victory, and carry the day for all that. In hard struggles
remember the power of Christ, who, in his resurrection, broke through
everything. With him thou canst also break through, and be more than
conqueror. Yea, in every conflict, if thy faith be firm, thou canst be
sure of victory beforehand; for faith engages Christ’s power, and his power
ensureth victory; it is as impossible for thine enemies to keep thee always in
bonds, as it was impossible that Christ could be kept in the grave by the
stone, seal, and keepers. Nay, the greater their force is, the more
glorious will be the victory of Christ over them.” K. H.
Von Bogatzky
“The Christian
life is not a playground; it is a battleground.” Warren
Wiersbe
“But
the battle is the Lord’s, and He will conquer.
We may fail – do fail continually – but He never fails.” Hudson Taylor
“So often I hear
Christians say ‘we are more than conquerors!’ You can only say that if you are
part of the battle.” Paul
Estabrook
“A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; our
helper he amid the flood of mortal ills prevaling. For still our ancient foe
doth seek to work us woe; his craft and power are great, and armed with cruel
hate, on earth is not his equal. Did we in our own strength confide, our
striving would be losing, were not the right man on our side, the man of God’s
own choosing. Dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is he; Lord Sabaoth, his name, from age to age the
same, and he must win the battle. And
though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us, we will not
fear, for God hath willed his truth to triumph through us. The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not
for him; his rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure; one little word
shall fell him. That word above all
earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth; the Spirit and the gifts are ours, thru
him who with us sideth. Let goods and
kindred go, this mortal life also; the body they may kill; God’s truth abideth
still; his kingdom is forever.” Martin
Luther
“Nothing is ever too far gone
for hope to come find you.” Ann Voskamp
HEART SAVOR
- · The battle belongs to the Lord and so does the outcome. The One Who makes known the end from the beginning is never taken by surprise. We don the full armor of God and take our stand. And we can stand because He is faithful and able to cause us to stand.
- · Nothing is too hard for God.
- · I am not to be fearful or worried or discouraged no matter how great the foe against me. I am to be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power and great strength. The arm of flesh fighting against Omnipotence will never prevail.
