HOW
GREAT THOU ART
BREAD
19 God is
not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his
mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? Numbers 23:19 (NIV)
13 Who
has understood the mind of the Lord,
or instructed him as his counselor? 14 Whom did the Lord
consult to enlighten him, and who taught him the right way? Who was it that
taught him knowledge or showed him the path of understanding? Isaiah 40:13-14 (NIV)
8 “Remember
this, fix it in mind, take it to heart, you rebels. 9 Remember the former things,
those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none
like me. 10 I make
known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I
say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.” Isaiah 46:8-10 (NIV)
33 Oh,
the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable
his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! 34 “Who has known the mind of the
Lord? Or who has been his counselor?” 35 “Who has ever given to God, that God should repay
him?” 36 For
from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory
forever! Amen. Romans 11:33-36 (NIV)
5 How
great are your works, O Lord, how
profound your thoughts! Psalms 92:5
(NIV)
8 “For
my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the
Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher
than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your
thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV)
1 I want
you to know how much I am struggling for you and for those at Laodicea, and for
all who have not met me personally. 2 My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and
united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete
understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the
treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Colossians 2:1-3 (NIV)
1 Praise
the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost
being, praise his holy name. 2 Praise the Lord,
O my soul, and forget not all his benefits-- 3 who forgives all your sins and
heals all your diseases, 4 who
redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, 5 who satisfies your desires
with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. Psalms 103:1-5 (NIV)
26 Lift
your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the
starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power
and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. 27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and
complain, O Israel, "My way is hidden from the Lord; my cause is disregarded by my God"? 28 Do you not know? Have you not
heard? The Lord is the everlasting
God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and
his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power
of the weak. 30 Even
youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They
will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will
walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:26-31
(NIV)

“God is indeed the Sovereign of all things, the One to
whom all creatures are accountable and whom all should glorify. He is under no
obligation to repay anyone, for
no one has ever given Him
anything. Paul concluded, For from Him
and through Him and to Him are all things. God is the first Cause, the
effective Cause, and the final Cause of everything. His deep ways are beyond
man's discovering; beyond man's knowing, beyond man's counseling, and beyond
man's giving. “All things” come from Him and by means of Him and are for Him
and His glory. Therefore, To Him be the
glory forever! Amen. God is the only proper One to magnify. The
all-sovereign God deserves the praise of all His creatures.” Bible Knowledge Commentary
“Any
discussion of how God is not like us must begin with an acknowledgment that we
are measurable and he is not. God is infinite, unbound by limits. He defies
measurement of any kind. His limitlessness underlies all of his attributes.” Jen Wilkin
“Only God is:
- Infinite - the
God of no limits
- Incomprehensible -
the God of infinite mystery
- Self-existent - the
God of infinite creativity
- Self-sufficient - the
God of infinite provision
- Eternal - the
God of infinite days
- Immutable- the God
of infinite sameness
- Omnipresent -
the God of infinite place
- Omniscient - the God
of infinite knowledge
- Omnipotent- the God of
infinite power
- Sovereign - the
God of infinite rule
A measureless God begins to upend our sense of personal
awesomeness." Jen Wilken
“Isaiah's words remind me that God is God and I am not. He has no
rivals and there is none like Him. He is the One who is utterly holy; the One
who reigns and rules; who sees the beginning from the end; who knows me inside
and out, yet still chooses to love me unconditionally. As I meditate on God's
immeasurable attributes I am forced to ask, ‘How should the knowledge that God
is _________ change the way I live today?’”
Donna Evans
“Where does your security lie? Is God
your refuge, your hiding place, your stronghold, your shepherd, your counselor,
your friend, your redeemer, your saviour, your guide? If He is, you don't need
to search any further for security.” Elisabeth Elliot
“‘I am the Alpha and the Omega’ says the Lord God,
‘who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty (Revelation 1:8).’
The opening lines of the book of Revelation declare to us a God unlimited
by time, so much so that he determines its beginning and its end. His eternal
nature is written large and often across the pages of Scripture. The Bible
begins with a time stamp, "in the beginning," and then spends 66
books describing the God who decrees seasons and times but is not bound by them
in the least. Free to act within time as he wills, he exists outside of it. He
is simultaneously the God of the past, present and future, ending
time to his perfect will, unfettered by its constraints. The past holds for him
no missed opportunity. The present holds for him no anxiety. The future
holds for him no uncertainty. He was, and is, and is to come.” Jen Wilkin
