ZEALOUS
LOVE
BREAD
10 The Lord said to Moses, 11 “Phinehas son of Eleazar, the
son of Aaron, the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites; for he
was as zealous as I am for my honor among them, so that in my zeal I did not
put an end to them. 12 Therefore
tell him I am making my covenant of peace with him. 13 He and his descendants will
have a covenant of a lasting priesthood, because he was zealous for the honor
of his God and made atonement for the Israelites.” Numbers 25:10-13 (NIV)
17 Do not
let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord. Proverbs 23:17 (NIV)
13 When
it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple courts he found
men selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging
money. 15 So he
made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and
cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their
tables. 16 To
those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here!
How dare you turn my Father's house into a market!” 17 His disciples remembered that
it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.” John 2:13-17 (NIV)
17 The
seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in
your name.” 18 He
replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions
and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20 However,
do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are
written in heaven.” 21 At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy
Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and
earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and
revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.” Luke 10:17-21 (NIV)
1 Praise
the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost
being, praise his holy name. 2 Praise the Lord,
O my soul, and forget not all his benefits-- 3 who forgives all your sins and
heals all your diseases, 4 who
redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, 5 who satisfies your desires
with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. 6 The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed. 7 He made known his ways to
Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel: 8 The Lord
is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. 9 He will not always accuse, nor
will he harbor his anger forever; 10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us
according to our iniquities. 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great
is his love for those who fear him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he
removed our transgressions from us. 13 As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear
him; 14 for he
knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. 15 As for man, his days are like
grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; 16 the wind blows over it and it
is gone, and its place remembers it no more. 17 But from everlasting to
everlasting the Lord's love is with
those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children's children-- 18 with those who keep his
covenant and remember to obey his precepts. Psalms 103:1-18 (NIV)
11 Never
be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Romans 12:11 (NIV)
BUTTER
“A
zealous man feels that like a lamp he is made to burn. Such a one will always find a sphere for his
zeal.” J. C. Ryle
“Determine what
specific goal you want to achieve. Then dedicate yourself to its attainment
with unswerving singleness of purpose, the trenchant zeal of a crusader.” Paul
J. Meyer
“Burn brightly
without burning out.” Richard Biggs
“Love is never a trite feeling. Love is a wildfire in the bones, a burning flame willing to serve — willing to say yes.” Ann Voskamp
“For eighty-six years I have served Him. He has never done me wrong. How can I blaspheme my King who saved me? The fire you threaten burns for a time and is soon extinguished; there is a fire you know nothing about—the fire of the judgment to come and of eternal punishment, the fire reserved for the ungodly. But why do you hesitate? Do what you want.” Polycarp
“To have found God and still to pursue Him is the soul’s paradox of love, scorned indeed by the too easily satisfied religionist, but justified in happy experience by the children of the burning heart.” A.W. Tozer
“Catch on fire with enthusiasm, and people will come for miles to watch you burn.” John Wesley
“On Him
then reckon, to Him look, on Him depend:
and be assured that if you walk with Him, look to Him and expect help
from Him, He will never fail you. An
older brother, who has known the Lord for forty-four years, who writes this,
says for your encouragement that He has never failed him. In the greatest difficulties, in the heaviest
trials, in the deepest poverty and necessities, He has never failed me; but
because I was enabled by His grace to trust in Him, He has always appeared for
my help. I delight in speaking well of
His Name.” George Mueller
