NEW
MERCIES EVERY MORNING
BREAD
21 Yet
this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: 22 Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is your
faithfulness. 24 I say
to myself, “The Lord is my
portion; therefore I will wait for him.” Lamentations 3:21-24 (NIV)
13 As a
father has compassion on his children, so the Lord
has compassion on those who fear him; 14 for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we
are dust. Psalms 103:13-14 (NIV)
6 Surely
goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in
the house of the Lord forever. Psalms 23:6 (NIV)
22 Cast
your cares on the Lord and he will
sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall. Psalms 55:22 (NIV)
5 Then
the Lord came down in the cloud
and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the Lord. 6 And he
passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord,
the Lord, the compassionate and
gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.” Exodus 34:5-6 (NIV)
4 But
because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even
when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved. Ephesians 2:4-5 (NIV)
18 Yet
the Lord longs to be gracious to
you; he rises to show you compassion. For the Lord
is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him! 19 O people of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep
no more. How gracious he will be when you cry for help! As soon as he hears, he
will answer you. Isaiah 30:18-19 (NIV)
17 But
from everlasting to everlasting the Lord's
love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children's
children-- 18 with
those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts. Psalms 103:17-18 (NIV)
“For
the Lord your God is gracious and
compassionate. He will not turn his face from you if you return to him.” 2 Chronicles 30:9 (NIV)

“Something happens
when we come to God for His grace and mercy--something that is so radical and
so amazing that it can only be described as death to our old selves. It is the
overwhelming desire to please the One who has loved us with such amazing and unconditional
love...I may not get better overnight; I may not be the fine, upstanding, and
wonderful Christian I thought I was, but I now have a desire to please the One
who loved me (and gave Himself for me). That desire is the soil in which
goodness grows--not perfectly, by any means, but it does grow.” Steve
Brown
“The foundational
principle of grace is that God’s kingdom priorities are completely inverted
from those of the world. God’s plan is to magnify His saving mercy and grace
not through human strength but rather through its weakness…The gospel of grace
would remind us that we can’t be used until we operate not out of our own
strength but in weakness, as we depend on Christ’s Spirit to show the reality
of the cross.” Paul
Kooistra
“Grant,
Almighty God, that as You have made known Your law, and has also added Your
gospel, in which You call us to Your service, and also have invited us with all
kindness to partake of Your grace; O grant, that we may not be deaf, either to
Your command or to the promises of Your mercy, but render ourselves submissive
to You everywhere, and so learn to devote all our faculties to You, that we may
in truth avow that the rule of a holy and religious life, has been delivered to
us in Your law, and that we may firmly adhere to Your promises, lest through
any of the allurements of the world, or through the flatteries and delusions of
Satan, You should suffer our minds to be drawn away from that love which You
have once for all manifested to us in Your only begotten Son, and in which You
daily confirm us by the teaching of the gospel, until we at length shall come
to the full enjoyment of this love in that celestial inheritance, which has
been purchased for us by the blood of Your only Son.” John Calvin
“There
is a wideness in God’s mercy, like the wideness of the sea.” Frederick
William Faber
“To added
affliction He addeth God’s His mercy, to multiplied trials, His multiplied
peace.” Annie
Johnson Flint
“The pearl of justice is
found in the heart of mercy.” Catherine of Siena
“God's
mercy is vast and beyond our comprehension. He will never reject anyone who
turns to Him for mercy. Nor will He force Himself on anyone who chooses to live
without Him.”
Michael
Youssef
“We judge things
by their present appearance; but the Lord sees them in their consequences. If we could do the same we would be perfectly
of His mind; but since we can’t, it is an unspeakable mercy that He will manage
for us, whether we are pleased with His management or not; and it is regarded
as one of His heaviest judgments when He gives any person up to the way of
their own hearts, and to walk according to their own wisdom.” John
Newton
