FAIREST
LORD JESUS
BREAD
3 He was
despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering.
Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him
not. 4 Surely
he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him
stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our
transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought
us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. 6 We all, like sheep, have gone
astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:3-6 (NIV)
1 If you
have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his
love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by
being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. 3 Do nothing out of selfish
ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than
yourselves. 4 Each
of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of
others. 5 Your
attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance
as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a
cross! 9 Therefore
God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every
name, 10 that
at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under
the earth, 11 and
every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the
Father. Philippians 2:1-11 (NIV)
5 Therefore,
when Christ came into the world, he said: “Sacrifice and offering you did not
desire, but a body you prepared for me; 6 with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not
pleased. 7 Then I
said, ‘Here I am--it is written about me in the scroll-- I have come to do your
will, O God.’” 8 First he said, “Sacrifices and
offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you
pleased with them” (although the law required them to be made). 9 Then he said, “Here I am, I
have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second. 10 And by that will, we have been
made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Hebrews 10:5-10 (NIV)
3 His
divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our
knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us
his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate
in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil
desires. 5 For
this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to
goodness, knowledge; 6 and to
knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to
perseverance, godliness; 7 and to
godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if you possess these
qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive
in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But if anyone does not have
them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed
from his past sins. 10 Therefore,
my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For
if you do these things, you will never fall, 11 and you will receive a rich
welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:3-11 (NIV)
23 to the
One who remembered us in our low estate His
love endures forever. 24 and freed us from our enemies, His love endures forever.
Psalms 136:23-24 (NIV)
BUTTER
“Fairest Lord Jesus, ruler of all nature, O thou of God and
man the Son, Thee will I cherish, Thee will I honor, thou, my soul's glory,
joy, and crown. Beautiful Savior! Lord of all the nations! Son of God and Son of Man! Gory and honor, praise, adoration, now and
forevermore be thine.” German Hymn
“I do not think of Christ as God alone, or man alone, but
both together. For I know He was hungry,
and I know that with five loaves He fed five thousand. I know He was thirsty, and I know that He
turned the water into wine. I know He
was carried in a ship, and I know that He walked on the sea. I know that He died, and I know that He raised
the dead. I know that He was set before
Pilate, and I know that He sits with the Father on His throne. I know that He was worshiped by angels, and I
know that He was stoned by the Jews. And
truly some of these I ascribe to the human, and others to the divine
nature. For by reason of this He is said
to have been both God and man.” John
Chrysostom
“The Lord’s chief desire is to reveal Himself to you and, in
order for Him to do that, He gives you the experience of enjoying His
presence. He touches you, and His touch
is so delightful that, more than ever, you are drawn inwardly to Him.” Madame Jeanne Guyon
“No
joy can excel that of the soldier of Christ:
Jesus reveals Himself so graciously, and gives such sweet refreshment,
that the warrior feels more calm and peace in his daily strife than others in
their hours of rest.” Charles H.
Spurgeon
“We have every reason to hold on
firmly to the faith we profess, for He who has called us is faithful! It is Jesus who saves us, lives to intercede
for us, allows us to approach the throne of grace with confidence, and grants
us abundant grace, mercy, and peace.”

“Our
hearts were made for joy. Our hearts
were made to enjoy the One who created them.
Too deeply planted to be much affected by the ups and downs of life,
this joy is a knowing and a being known by our Creator. He sets our hearts alight with radiant
joy.” Anonymous
“He
can save you from yourself, and He loves you when you find it hard to love
yourself.” Frances J. Roberts
